Getty's Friday Flights 80's Night

Getty's Friday Flights 80's Night
July 19, 2013
Time: 6:00–9:00 p.m.
Location: Site-wide
Admission: Free; no reservations required

The Getty is having some 80's fun and showing Blade Runner The Director's Cut no less. 80's costume contest and free music, too sweet.

"Nostalgic for the neon–New Wave of the 1980s? Then Friday Flights is your one-way ticket there! On July 19, synthpop and electro by DJ Paul V will complement the groundbreaking 1980s architecture and design seen in the exhibition Overdrive: L.A. Constructs the Future, 1940–1990. Special tours of Overdrive are offered at 6:00 and 7:00 p.m.

In addition to the music, dance instructors Cynthia Harper and James Zimmer will make visitors get physical with a lesson in classic 1980s dance moves. For a futuristic flashback, visitors can catch a screening of the sci-fi classic Blade Runner, then create their own totally radical fashion statement in the Smile Lounge photo booth. Guests are encouraged to come in their best '80s garb – there will be prizes for the best-dressed guests!

The Getty is open until 9:00p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays through the summer. Admission is free, and parking is $10 after 5:00p.m. Visit the event site for more information.

In 2019, a city called Los Angeles is a dark, wet, and vertical environment, with Frank Lloyd Wright's Ennis House and the Bradbury Building recycled to produce a postmodern atmosphere where Replicants, a mash-up of humans and Blade Runners, uneasily blend. "
