Hype: Hi-Fi RUSH, Justin Roiland Off Of Everything, Aqua Teen Coming Back?

Hi-Fi RUSH surprised us by coming out today on Xbox and PC. This beat game, beat-em up is from none-other than Tango Gameworks, the same company that made Ghostwire: Tokyo. I don't think the games gonna break the mold, but it looks like a Hell of a lot of fun and you have a cat robot sidekick. Check out the trailer and maybe pick up the game.

Honestly, they don't seem like they have a big promotion budget for this one, didn't even have it on our radar.

Ooh boy, Justin Roiland, co-creator of Rick & Morty, has either resigned or been kicked-off of everything he's doing including Rick & Morty, Squanch Games and his  Hulu shows on domestic dispute allegations that have yet to go to trial.

In not the best timing or the best timing for the cartoon, Aqua Teen Hunger Force is getting a new 5 episode season out of nowhere. The best quotes from the creators were featured in the press release below.

We are thrilled to be making more ‘Aqua Teen Hunger Force’ episodes for a new generation of fans, building upon the most impressive collection of IP ever assembled. Success is optimal and leads to quality,” said Maiellaro and Willis simultaneously, almost as if they were programmed by ChatGPT.

“Congratulations!” they added. “You waited just long enough for ‘Aqua Teen Forever: Plantasm’ to be free on the service your parents pay for. I can’t wait for you to discover the project everyone has been talking about, and by everyone, I mean our personal twitter accounts. There is too much stuff to watch already. Breathe, and focus exclusively on Aqua Teen. Delete everything else.”

Original Movie “Aqua Teen Forever: Plantasm” Arrives on HBO Max Feb. 8 and Adult Swim March 12

Bookoff AnimeLab In Little Tokyo

We haven't gone ourselves, but it looks like Bookoff has finally come to Little Tokyo in the form of an AnimeLab. You could find Bookoffs much further out of the regular valley/ downtown LA area selling manga and games and, of course used books. They're a Japanese based second hand store.

This AnimeLab store seems to feature anime goods, which makes total sense for where it's located.

Japan Up Magazine has a short article on what it's like. I went to the NEW BOOKOFF AnimeLab in Little Tokyo!

It's so new, we don't have any decent reviews yet online and its own website says it hasn't even had it's grand opening yet as of writing this.

In truly depressing news, 10 people are dead and multiple people were injured after a mass shooting in Monterey Park, just an hour after the Lunar New Year's festival celebration. This took place Saturday night. For the latest details here's the LA Times article:

Things To Do In LA is saddened by the events and our hearts go to all those involved.

Hype: Scream 6, Fashion Police Squad & Didn't See That Coming

Jeez, forgot Scream 6 is out this year and just in a month or two. Watch the trailer above to see how crazy it gets, still looks fun.

Fashion Police Squad is coming out out Feb 2nd on console and does look ridiculous and fun. You shoot bad guys until they're well dressed. Already on Steam, the game comes to  Xbox, PlayStation and Switch on February 2nd.

Rain World: Downpour is now available to purchase on Steam

And this just makes me laugh, because it's a real crossover.

From the press release:
Square Enix Collective®, FuturLab, and Crystal Dynamics® announced today that a free TOMB RAIDER® Special Pack is coming to all POWERWASH SIMULATOR players on January 31. The super-soothing simulator is also set to launch on PlayStation®4 (PS4™), PlayStation®5 (PS5™) consoles and Nintendo Switch® on the same day.

Local Hype: Power-Up Band, PaleyFest LA Returns & 50th Annie Awards

Universal Studios Hollywood has shown off the Power-Up Band, a wearable device to earn coins and interact with certain elements of Super Nintendo World when it opens Feb 17th. You connect it via an app using a smart phone. No word on price; in Japan the roughly go for $31.00, here's hoping there cheaper than that here, but will see. There's six designs, now, but here's hoping for more or special editions for the future. more info here

Check out the full line-up for PaleyFest LA 2023 with it starting with none other than The Mandalorian at the end of March. We know it's early, but tickets might sell out for these special panels, out of the cons, for some of TV's favorite shows. Paley Members and Citi cardmembers can access advance tickets already, but the general public can access tickets on January 20, 2023 at 9:00 am PT. It's all gonna take place at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood.

Other panels from show include The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Yellowjackets,The Late Late Show with James Corden,Yellowstone Grey's Anatomy, and Abbott Elementary.

It's the 50th Annie Awards soon. What are they? Good question, we've been covering for some time now and you should know. They're the animation awards and the nominees we're just announced over the broad spectrum of animation. Check out if Rick & Morty can beat Bluey. Really, though if a fan of animation, it's great to see those who work so hard at it get snubbed at an award show for it.

We're excited because it'll be in person again and isn't known for a smooth show, but that's why we love it so darn much. Hopefully, it's live streamed so everyone can enjoy. It's happening next month, probably the same night as the Writer's Guild Awards Feb 25th at UCLA's Royce Hall.
