Anime Expo Update

I'm so buying this right away. Nathan Maurer aka Captain Osaka will be selling a limited run of his deviantart doujinshi Double K. Think Gurren Lagann as a 70's buddy cop movie. Double K is one of my favorite onlie comics and the best alternae universe adaption of anime series ever.

Only Ouedan is coming from Mecha Fetus. No Paul Robertson, no Kinuko, no Jonathan Kim. Lame. No new Mecha fetus book.

Pop Surrealism artist Camilla d’Errico will have a booth at anime expo. If you've gone to any hip or fashionable store in LA you've seen her work.

here's a little info on here, but why would you chose that image for your youtube clip? Here eyes look so weird.

Long Beach Awful Place, probably why anime expo isn't held there anymore

Blogging.LA posted this sad and frustrating video of how bad it's become in Long Beach. Security should have clearly helped as someones bicycle was about to be a stolen. Pathetic

It's all about Anime Expo this week

Anime Expo starts tomorrow and I couldn't be more excited. Four glorious days of Otaku fun. Sure it's overpriced, but Hell it's fun to go for one day.

*Reminder bring snacks and drinks. The food sucks, there will be no Japanese cuisine even served. I don't know why, they just haven't figured it out to sell sushi at a anime convention.

I suggest getting on the Metro line and going to Little Tokyo from the convention center. It's not too far away and your still engrossed in anime culture. There are many different Japanese restaurants to try. The have three Japanese supermarkets to buy goodies from. Plus Yamazaki Bakery. Visit Anime Jungle the best anime store in LA. They even provided a map

Don't forget you could meet and eat up with friends at Royal/T and Yakiniku Tangier Lounge. I just reviewed that place and it is the perfect anime-themed Korean BBQ restaurant.
Here's a list of all the other anime related locations in LA if your from out of town wanna have some fun when the convention ends or get bored at it.

* Bring a gameboy or ds you might be in a line or waitinf for a show to start.

Or you could try human contact. You are at a anime convention with other anime fans. Try and talk with someone!

*Don't worry the bathrooms are clean. The food might suck, but at least you can take a crap in peace.

Check out what you want to do with there handy schedule

I so want the NOHO ROBO shirt

NOHO ROBO

Super Punch posted this t-shirt design by Kevin Tong. I really want the shirt, but I'm not sure if North Hollywood High actually picked the design. I'm gonna try and get it. I'll post if about the process of getting one if I succed.

I'm always driving arounf North Hollywood and this might be the only art I've liked from that "art district". I think Keving Tong should have done the NOHO sign, which is just a ugly eye sore. Who wouldn't want robots greeting you as you enter the area?

I also found this bit out it seems on graduation day this year North Hollywood High had a bomb scare. A shoe box with wires sticking out of it was found with pieces of paper around. The piecies of paper had, "Guess who?" , written on them. It was a fake. However they did send in a bomb squad robot to check it out. So if you think about it the NOHO ROBO shirt totally works. Just make the bomb squad robot the mascot or give it a honorary diploma. I know i'd like it if a robot graduated with me at high school.

Vader looks good in pink

So I visited the Vader Project and it's kind of fun to see what artist did to the Vader helmet's. I blogged about it about two weeks ago. The Vaders were on Melrose just a few blocks from Gallery 1988. I'm afraid it's too late to see them in LA. They're being auctioned of in Philadelphia in July.

Here are some of my favorites.

Amanda Visell is everywhere lately. She's gonna be the next James Jean or Scott Campbell. She's in almost every art show.
Gary Baseman it's good to see your creepy work anywhere.

Giant Robot + Gaijin Games Game Night Party

Right before E3 Gaijin games and Giant Robot held a party for the masses who couldn't get into E3. It was fun little party where people could play Bit.Trip games on the sides of buildings. It had a fairly good turn out.

Alex Neuse CEO of Gaijin games maker of the Bit.Trip series was there.

I like what he had to say, "... not going to ramble about the indie scene it's more important to play games on the sides of buildings."

Whats also cool is Game Night will be a continual event at Giant Robot happening every two months. It brings gamers together in real life and thats nice.

BTW recently tried the new Terminator: Rise of the Machines arcade game. It's  worth playing. Here's some footage. I played this one at the Castle Park on Sepulveda.

Yakiniku Lounge Tangier Otaku Approved

Anime-themed Korean BBQ restaurant with maid waitresses.  Did I get your attention?

The food was excellent. I went in for the Sunday through Thursday Special  which is $25.99. I got huge portions that kept coming as often as I wanted till I was stuffed. You get a selection of 4 different beefs, 1 pork, and 1 chicken with this option. It was worth it. Everything was good, but I sticked mainly with the beef. I learned rice bowls aren't included, but there only $1.50 each and endless, so you can get as much as you want.

Included with the special was different vegetables and a huge bowl of different lettuces. The way tangier suggests to eats your meat is wrapped in lettuce, I like rice so I didn't really care.

If your more of a rice and meat person just ask for a rice bowl or you'll have a big bowl of different green matter that will go to waste. Everything was fresh and the meat was soft and flavorful. It was a treat.
Just look at the menus. What other places do you eat at do you get a preachy manga comic with a nonsense story akin to any Miyazaki movie?

The design of the whole place is just fun. You enter welcomed by some friendly Japanese robot statues and waiters. The place has multiple arrangements for where you can sit including a great area in the back for huge groups with a giant pulsating screen changing color behind you. The giant screen makes you feel like your in a sci-fi anime. The have a private section for parties right past the bar which looks nice too. The private section can be closed off and seems like a secret meeting place.

I sat at a booth and that was nice too, great for four people. You'll enjoy your meal as you look around at all the nice Japanese murals. Service was nice too, The maid waitress was courteous and helpful. Yes, a cute, nice maid waitress, not like the mean tsundere maids of Royal/T was serving me.

On some side notes parking isn't to hard. They don't have their own lot or valet, but parking close by is possible.

When it boils down to it I have to say it's the best place for a Otaku to unwind and chat with friends and enjoy themselves. It trumps Royal/T or any restaurant in Little Tokyo for Otaku likability. It's a damn good Korean barbecue place on it's own. I also do find it strange that the place is Korean barbecue instead of Japanese food when it is anime-themed. But who cares when it works so well.

This is a great place to head to after a long day at the upcoming Anime Expo

Anime Expo 2010 Update

Anime Expo is happening in less then two weeks

Here is some stuff going down that interest me and might interest you

Shows

BLACK LAGOON Roberta’s Blood Trail, Episode 1, will premiere on July 1, 2010, at 1:30 p.m.

I use to watch this anime when it was shown on the Starz Movie channel. It's visceral and has a some great characters you find fun to watch. It's got gangster and mercenary type shootouts filled with action. Plus hot girls who like to fight dirty. Violence like and 80's Rambo movie btw.

At it's core it's about a average Joe Japanese white collar worker who ends up in a bad situation. Drugs, Mafia, sex and violence. The problem is the average Joe starts wondering if he has become  less than his morals.

KISARAGI, will be hosted on July 2 at 4:00p.m. in the J.W. Marriott Hotel

basically a funny Otaku murder mystery will be acted out based on a movie

from anime expo site:
One year after the suicide of C-list model Kisaragi Miki, five of her fans come together for a commemorative meeting. They slowly come to the realization that her death didn’t occur they way they thought it did. The more they talk, the more the case takes shape in their minds, and the closer they come to the truth. Five actors join together to bring you an exciting murder mystery of epic proportions. The starring cast includes SOPHIA lead singer Mitsuru Matsuoka, Nezumi Imamura, Yousuke Asari, Masahiro Usui and Yuichirou Nakayama.

People

Shinichi “Nabeshin” Watanabe

Creator of one of the first anime's I bought cause I read about it in Play magazine. Anyway he was the director of Excel Saga one of the most insane and comedy driven anime I've ever scene. It's like watching a Naked Gun movie about a stupid henchgirl trying to take over the world for her Master who does not car if she lives or dies.

Nabeshin actually put himself in the cartoon and his future series as a parody of Spike Spiegel from Cowboy Bebop. What is truly great is he dresses up like said character in public. The last Anime Expo he attended he did a funny as hell sexy shoot which is all kind of wrong for a old asian man in a afro.

Danny Choo
King Otaku himself will be a guest at anime expo this year. Danny is considered by some to be the head Otaku for basically living the dream of living in Japan, buying all the anime and figures he wants and having a blog that gets 2 million users.

He's also bringing the next big anime over for a first look it's called Black Rock Shooter

Stuff

Just a reminder you can get stuff at Anime Expo that you usually would have to pay insane shipping and handling fees

MORE UPDATES TO COME
