Local Hype: Animate Los Angeles Opens This Weekend, Put On A Tutu & Less Murders

Los Angeles rides a sharp decline in summer murders

"In the two-month period from July 1–Aug. 31, 60 people were murdered in the city of Los Angeles. While that is a tragic loss of life, there is a grim silver lining: It is a 48% reduction from the 89 homicides in the same period last year. It also marks the lowest figure in that timeframe since 2019."

No One Will Save You Out Now

Highly recommend watching this one. Utterly amazed the man who wrote the terrible Underwater with Kristen Stewart made such a better film as writer and director. But, I guess another director and a terrible actress can do that.

Very fun alien invasion film perfect to start you scares for Hallloween.

It's a shame it's only on Hulu and not in theaters too.

Halloween News: Star Trek: Holo-Ween & What the Fanta Zero Sugar Halloween Flavor

It's so specific and silly that I can't help promote it and wonder what happens in it.

Out weekly this October is a comic mini-series based on Star Trek: The Next Generation about what seems to be a possessed Holodeck. Here's the synopsis. It's like they gave fan art a real comic.

Solicitation: After enduring an anxiety-ridden passage through a solar storm, Captain Picard and the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise take to celebrating Halloween to reset the mood. But while the Earth holiday involves sweet treats and other festivities, they soon learn that fear is in season when crew members begin to go missing one by one.

The brand created to still sell to Germany during WW2, Fanta, is back with a Halloween flavor. I miss the bottles just having Halloween designs. What the Fanta Zero Sugar? is the new name of the mystery Halloween flavor that turns your tongue black. It's already out in stores in what looks like glow-in-the-dark bottles and cans.

Other than teaming with someone on social media about it the other silly bit is you'll be seeing murals of the drink in October around LA.

"As Halloween draws closer, glow-in-the-dark, hand-painted wall murals will showcase the #WhatTheFanta visual identity day and night around Los Angeles with locations in Venice Beach, West Hollywood, Downtown and Hollywood. Immersive cinema creative will bring big-screen mystery and whimsy to moviegoers nationwide."

Movie Hype: Beyond Fest Swag & Animation Is Film Back In October

Beyond Fest and it's like always have a bit more fun. Check out the BINGO cards and director trading cards you can snag at the event next week.

Animation Is Film is back this October and it has some big gets. The animation film festival always has some amazing films to see.

Some of the gets are:

The Boy and the Heron from Miyazaki is sadly already sold out, maybe they'll do a encore showing if everyone asks? It won't be the North American premiere, but would be the first screening of it on the West Coast.

Both 100 years of WB and Disney special screenings. WB's will show off its special stop-motion short Daffy in Wackyland.

The Concierge from Japan is another one we've been waiting for about a human woman trying to sell things to animals in a mall, it looks beautiful.

The 6th Edition  of the festival runs 5 days, Wednesday, October 18 to Sunday, October 22.
