As the classic film plays on the big screen, he'll conduct his gorgeous and atmospheric score, performed live by the LA Opera Orchestra, making this the ultimate audience experience for a truly iconic film.

During the transition to sound production, Hollywood studios faced a dilemma: How to export English-language films to lucrative non-English speaking foreign markets. It was easy enough during the silent era—just swap out the title cards—but the spoken word presented a unique challenge. Some studios, such as Universal, chose to make multiple versions of the same film featuring the same story told with different actors speaking their native languages. The most famous example of this approach is the Spanish-language version of Dracula in 1931, not only because it survives intact after being thought lost for decades, but also because it arguably rivals—some would say exceeds—the artistry of its counterpart.

The Past Within Nov 2

Here's another scary one missing Halloween by a few days. It's The Past Within, out on Nov 2 on Steam. Now, this is a co-op-only, point-and-click adventure game, so you'll both have to have a copy to play. One of you is in the past, the other the future and you've go to work together by talking out the puzzles you encounter. Its got a definite creepy vibe and I can't wait to play...with a friend.

Ghost Song Out Nov 3

Though not as spooky as you might have hoped for around Halloween, happening very soon is the release of Ghost Song headed to Steam and the other consoles, except Switch, Nov 3rd. This new rogue-lite looking game has you waking up on a nightmare world as what seems to be a long dormant robot. How long have you been out and what's wrong with this place?

What really caught my eye, other than the creepy mutating monsters, was the similarities to Dead Cells and it looking like a Metroidvania. The game looks to be some very creepy fun to play right after Halloween.

Exhibitions on view October 29 – November 19, 2022

Just in time for a Halloween celebration, Thinkspace Projects is thrilled to present Brian Viveros’s MANIA. The CA-based artist best known for his highly detailed paintings of anti-pin-up doe-eyed ‘Woman of Power’ and his Dirtyland universe, brings an entirely new body of work to the gallery.

In Gallery II, Abigail Goldman’s latest body of work Instincts and Indulgences will be on display. Pulling from her personal experience as an investigator at the Public Defender in Bellingham, WA, a Las Vegas newspaper reporter, and investigator for the Federal Public Defender of Nevada, Goldman creates intricate die-o-ramas rendered in 1:87 scale.

In Gallery III, Thinkspace presents Motelseven’s Waiting For Atlantis, an homage to Samuel Becket’s Waiting for Godot. Drawing on their own personal struggles about identity, fitting in, narcissism, and complexity, the resulting collection is a juxtaposition of the colorful and playful among tragedy and existential turmoil. Evolving from earlier works, the girls featured in the art are now defiant, determined to break free.

Gallery IV features Huntz Liu’s latest body of work, Dissolution, utilizing his signature technique of layering material. Using a straightedge and knife, Huntz Liu cuts and layers paper to expose geometric/abstract compositions

BBC America More Dead Than Usual, Bye-Bye Doctor Who

In what many thought was a joke, Disney Plus will be the only official source to get new episodes of Doctor Who outside of England in 2023. Yes, that does mean, no new episodes on BBC America. BBC America, part of AMC Networks, has been a very troubling cable channel for some time, having almost zero content actually from the BBC and playing marathons of Star Trek and movies. It's odd to wonder how it can possibly even function with even less new content.

Halloween Update: Almost Final Plans

We've added as much as we can to the list.  TTDILA's Halloween Guide 2022 has been jam-packed and it's about to burst. Heck, we have run-off into November with Día de Muertos and haunts staying open so everyone can get their scares in. Here's highlights of what's happening this weekend. Grab that pumpkin and enjoy the somewhat last weekend of Halloween, because in LA it kind of stays around.

DIA DE LOS MUERTOS FESTIVAL
OCTOBER 25 THRU NOVEMBER 2, 2022
Olvera Street
Free

For over 35 years, the merchants on Olvera Street have celebrated Dia de los Muertos. The celebration has evolved to incorporate the pre-Columbian, Aztec, Mayan and Catholic rituals surrounding death. Each night, a vibrant and colorful procession sets the stage for our ceremony.

Dia de los Muertos is, in fact, a celebration of life – it is not a time to mourn our loved ones, rather it is a time to remember the lives they lead and the many things they enjoyed during that life. Death is a part of life, and so we honor it. Dia de los Muertos at Olvera Street is the only celebration of its kind in Los Angeles – A nine (9) day festival, with a nightly procession, community altars on display, and entertainment.

Wednesday, October 26th | 8-9pm
