Insomniac Attack

All fans were welcome to Insomniac Community Day, last Tuesday at the Hollywood Egyptian Theater.  Multiple kiosks were open to try Resistance 3, while you could sit down and relax and try Ratchet & Clank All 4 One with up to 3 others. If you wanted to play big,  an entire theater screen had Resistance 3 playable on it. The event was free, fun, a filled with Insomniac info.

Insomniac showed how much it cares about fans, because they just didn't sponsor the event, they were there. Everyone from Insomniac was there to directly talk to fans. They were wearing some awesome designer tees, so all you had to do was walk up to them. I can't think of a more direct gaming company, they actually have the employees meet with fans in person.

Resistance 3 was shown in the lovely looking main theater of the Egyptian. The first new level and some new enemies were shown off. Presentations explaining how the game works and who was behind it were shown to audience approval. The game itself is a fun first person shooter, that sets you down another broken timeline where aliens are taking over the Earth. I'm not much of a first person shooter fan, but it's solid gameplay with good looking graphics.

I'm much more of a Ratchet and Clank fan. Ratchet and Clank All 4 One takes players to multiplayer for fast pick up and play. I can't think of many other co-op multiplayer games for PS3 like it other than Castle Crashers. It might be the only game where you shoot your ally out of your own gun. Your gun can suck and blow players and bolts.

Guns, guns and more guns, not all the guns were unlocked in the demo, but a new one was a co-op shocker. Two-players must work together and not get to distant from each other. The benefit is anything that come between them is shocked. You got a blaster, a electric whip and missile launcher, too. I'm sure more weapons can be bought or evolved through gameplay, but it was just a taste of the the full game.

Ratchet looks more sleek and cartoony now, even the creator of Insomniac Ted Price said so, and that he was proven wrong by the first artist who created Ratchet's design. Ratchet has evolved full circle into his original sketches. Most likely due to to what the PS2 graphics could do compared to the PS3. Did you now Ratchet evolved from Marvin the Martian of Looney Tunes? Think about it, they both pull out big guns.  Ratchet also evolved from a lizard alien bounty hunter, that had three robots that he wore, kind of like clothing. Those three robots came together like voltron and formed a robot to help their master.  If you guessed that's where Clank came from, you'd be right. They lost the  lizard, because he wasn't cute enough.

You learned all about about the history of Insomniac buy the panels going on. You also learned how open they are. Ted Price the owner and head of Insomniac is a friendly fellow, who opened up to Adam Sessler towards the end of the event on stage. They went through the high's and lows of Insomniac and how it became the company it is today. A company that cares about it's fans. Then there was a raffle and people won some cool stuff, all for free.
The free event was made possible with the help of I am 8-bit. Who gave out some damn good Ratchet & Clank All 4 One t-shirts. They didn't have Resistance 3 shirts in time, but they made sure to get everyone's info, so they could mail them out. I wonder what they"ll do at E3.
