Grand Central Market's 100th Anniversary Cake Sounds Intense

not an image of the real cake
Grand Central Market is celebrating 100 years in style this Friday with one big cake. It's gonna be the largest birthday cake in LA history. (I'm not sure if that "birthday" means it's not the biggest cake LA has scene.) It's gonna stand one-story tall and it'll be 100 layers.

From the press release:

"The creative caloric cake's ingredients include 390 pounds of butter, 325 pounds of sugar, 1750 eggs and 125 pounds of chocolate. The colossal cake is layered chocolate and vanilla with strawberry filling. The exterior of the cake is decorated with fresh full-size whole fruits, large foliage and flowers."

And there's a lot of work going into the cake with...

"Six months in the planning and preparation by the renowned L.A. pastry chef Valerie Gordon of Valerie Confections, the cake will be transported to Grand Central Market by flatbed truck and will require an all-night session for frothy finishing flairs and movement into place for the celebration."

So if in the area, head there for a free slice and probably a long line.
