2012 Annie Award Nominations

The nominations for the Annie Awards are out. The awards for the animators in the industry take place every Feburary at UCLA in Rocye Hall. I had the pleasure of covering the event last year and was laughing at the over active Tom Kenny. Don't give voice actors a mic unless you want to hear impressions all night.

I was still amazed Playdead didn't come to pick up it's award for Best Animated Video Game for Limbo last year. Here are the nominations this year.

  • Bumpy Road – Simogo
  • Catherine – Atlus
  • Gears of War 3 – Epic Games
  • Gesundheit – Konami Digital Entertainment
  • Ghost Trick: “Phantom Detective” – Capcom
  • Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet – Shadow Planet Productions, Gagne/Fuelcell
  • Ratchet and Clank: All 4 One – Insomniac Games
  • Rayman Origins – Ubisoft Montpellier
  • Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception – Naughty Dog

  • Like I said to Playdead when I asked them why they didn't attend (they live far away and didn't know if they were going to win), I'd be more than happy to pick up the award for you. So Capcom, Insomniac, Atlus and the rest I can pick up the award for you. Just give me your acceptance letters to read and I"ll head up

I already gave a shout out on AT Time for the Adventure Time nominations, but there are some more that peeked my interest.

Gabe Swarr whose comic Life in the Analog Age I just reviewed is up for Directing in a Television Production for Kung Fu Panda and Katie Rice in Storyboarding in a Television Production for Fanboy, both Dumm comic writers that I enjoy reading.

In voice acting I'm happy for
  • Diedrich Bader as Batman “Batman: The Brave and the Bold” – Warner Bros. Animation
  • H. Jon Benjamin as Sterling Archer “Archer” – FX Productions

  • Ehh, is all I can say for the nominations in
Best General Audience Animated TV Production
    • Archer – FX Productions
    • Green Lantern: The Animated Series – Warner Bros. Animation
    • Hoops & YoYo Ruin Christmas – Hallmark
    • MAD – Warner Bros. Animation
    • Mary Shelley’s Frankenhole Season 2 – Starburns Industries, Inc.
    • Prep & Landing: Naughty vs. Nice – Walt Disney Animation Studios
    • Star Wars: The Clone Wars – Lucasfilm Animation, Ltd.
    • The Simpsons – Gracie Films
I don't like the design of most of the shows. Archer's writing is great, but at the end of the day it's flash. Frankehole looks smashing, but writing it basically trash on fire. Green Lantern really?

Once you get rid of anything involving Gnomeo & Juliet the event should be fine.
