Weekly What To Do: Cons, Film Fests, Batman Villains in Catfights

This week is jam-packed with things to do and into the holiday season expect even more. I've already posted on them separately, but just reminding you AFI Fest, the free movie festival and D Con, the vinyl toy and art convention are happening this week too. You have PMX, a fan anime convention scheduled for the weekend as well. Oh, and Punk Arcade, can't wait to hear news about that.

We still have the LA Auto Show coming up later this month and rumor is Google might show off some self-driving cars at it.

I won't even get into December slate which includes the return of one of my new favorite film fests Eiga Fest. No details on line-up yet, but bet on a write-up as soon as it's out.

Eugene Kim and other select cast will be present for a special Q&A

I never though this film would get distribution, it's got so much Asian racism in the trailer alone, but now it comes back to LA full circle after being apart of the Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival.

"A ʻʻSake-Bombʼʼ is a cocktail created by dropping a shot of sake into a pint of beer. It's also a comedic road movie about a sarcastic Asian American and his Japanese cousin. Sebastian is a bitter, self-deprecating wannabe Internet star from Los Angeles. He has recently been dumped by his girlfriend and on the look-out for someone new. When his cousin Naoto, a naive sake maker from Japan, shows up to find his own ex-girlfriend, Sebastian takes him to north California to find her."

The last work of Hayao Miyazaki, who isn't dead, he just retired. This film is also apart of AFI Fest, with two free showings. To qualify for the Academy Awards it has to be shown for a week in theaters.

Miyazaki goes out with a movie of an airplane designer to show off one of his favorite tropes of showing flight. Oddly, the main character is voiced by Hideaki Anno, creator of Evangelion.

If you're going to PMX this weekend you might want to consider going in a big group to one of the showings.
