New York Gets Fake U.S. Premiere of Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection 'F'

As LA was both the home of the world premiere and the dub premiere of Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection 'F', it's odd that FUNimation is calling the showing of the film in New York this August the U.S. Premiere. Stop claiming premieres you don't have New York, you already get enough, LA won this one.

Here's the press release

FLOWER MOUND, TEXAS – July 24, 2015. FUNimation® Entertainment announced today that it will be kicking-off the limited theatrical release of the English dub of “Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection ‘F’” with a U.S. premiere on Monday, August 3, 2015 at 6:30pm at the AMC Empire 25 located in the 42nd Street Entertainment Center in New York City. The premiere will include a red carpet event prior to the screening that will include cast members and other celebrities. “Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection ‘F’” opens in more than 1,000 theaters across the U.S and Canada on Tuesday, August 4. This limited theatrical event, which includes a special 15-minute pre-show, runs from August 4 – 12.

Actors Seán Schemmel and Christopher R. Sabat, starring in the roles of Goku and Vegeta respectively, will be attending the premiere and the red carpet event prior to the screening.  Schemmel and Sabat are reprising their roles from last year’s highly-successful Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods. Both actors are in New York City as part of a press tour for the movie.

“New York City is home to one of our biggest fan communities and was one of our top cities with last year’s Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods,” said Gen Fukunaga, CEO and founder of FUNimation. “We’re pleased to bring the U.S. premiere to them as we launch our August 4 – 12 limited theatrical event of Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection ‘F.’”

FUNimation produced the special 15-minute, Dragon Ball Z themed pre-show to create a unique experience for fans that can only be found in theaters. The show includes exclusive cast interviews discussing Frieza's revival and his role in the Dragon Ball Z series. Fans will also be tested on their knowledge of the Dragon Ball Z franchise, with an interactive trivia show featuring the English cast and crew. Fans will be able to play along in real-time, using their mobile phone and the hashtag #DBZRF on Twitter. Winners will be picked from across the U.S. and Canada throughout the entire theatrical run.
“The response to Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection ‘F’ has been incredible and advance ticket sales have already far exceeded last year’s movie,” said Mike DuBoise, COO of FUNimation. “We encourage fans to purchase tickets as early as possible to ensure they don’t miss the opportunity to experience the movie in theaters; as well as join others in our interactive trivia contest as part of the special pre-show.”

“Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection ‘F’” is the 20th film in the Dragon Ball franchise.  The story is the follow up to Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods and showcases the return of Frieza – one of the greatest villains in all of anime. The new film, which promises even more action that last year’s film, will screen from August 4 – 12, 2015 in select theaters across the U.S. and Canada.  Tickets are available for advance purchase at www.dragonballz.com.  The final theatrical trailer for the movie, which was released at the recent San Diego Comic-Con, can be viewed here.

A limited amount of tickets to the premiere will be made available to fans via FUNimation’s social media channels and media partners.
