The Powerpuff Girls Special Preview

The Powerpuff Girls return next Monday for a brand new special in CG with character designs by Kevin Dart. For returning fans only the look has changed, the same voice actresses, story and Mayor needing help with opening his pickle jars remains.

The Powerpuff Girls Special
Monday, January 20 at 7:30 p.m. (ET/PT) on Cartoon Network
The Powerpuff Girls  will have a five-hour marathon on Sunday, January 19 beginning at 12 p.m. (ET/PT)

I was given a preview of the episode by CN and can tell you it's like going back waiting for new episodes to premiere. For a special, it's still an only average episode length at 22 minutes. The time feels up when your treated to memories of Bubbles, Blossom and Buttercup getting into a new problem. This problem is pants. As silly a premise as usual for our three girls. They have to deal with mind controlling video game pants. Painful memories of the Professor's past compiled with my favorite evil Monkey Mojojojo up to no good leave you with a new episode plot that fits right into Powerpuff Girl proper.

Ringo Starr has a cameo as a math magician (mathematician) dolled up like Liberace, maybe adding some older parents to the mix and someone on the production team wanting him is the only reason I can guess why he's there. Fans who grew up with the show didn't grow up with The Beatles and neither did any kids from this current generation. He doesn't hurt being in the mix, it's just an extra add-on.

The main difference from older episodes is the new design of Townsville and the girls in Kevin Dart's CG style. The time on animated cars moving must have cost highly and it shows as we see them frequently. I think it as sort of a big production for just one episode to change the art style and do it all in CG. I could be wrong and it might have been cheaper than just doing an episode the usual way You'll notice an immediate change in movement. People and everyone move a little bit differently in a CG environment, more of a clunky robot 360 move. In no way ugly, just jittery sometimes.

The episode really makes you wonder why the series ended, it could have kept going. Man I missed the crazy ramblings of Mojo. I missed them all. See it Monday.

Check out Ring Starr's music video for the episode, it's weird.
