IndieCade 2013 Preview: Whitaker Trebella Interview

Whitaker Trebella, creator of Pivvot, will be out and about showing his game off at IndieCade 2013. Unbeknownst to this writer, Pivvot happened to become Apple's App of the Week when these questions we're e-mailed to Whitaker. Congratulations on your success, Mr. Trebella. Here's a few questions asked of Trebella and his IndieCade debut.

Please explain your game Pivvot! and what you did to create it.
Pivvot is a game of strategic avoidance. You have to tap the left and right sides of the screen to rotate your ball in order to avoid obstacles. I used Unity with the Futile framework to create it.

A few of my friends are very sick into these concentration games like yours. Did you make it for them, so they may never act normal and yell out profanities whilst we're in public. Then I have to deny knowing them.
Yup. I'm one of those people. I love games that are SO hard. I love games that make me swear and get angry and hate the world. So I wanted to make games for people like me!

I mean how hard does the game get and have you seen people break down and laugh at them?
It gets really hard towards the end (even though it's rather easy for me now). Though the Berserk mode is totally insane. I can hardly even play it. But I'm amazed at how skilled some people are at it! I definitely will laugh at you when you suck at my game. That's what makes it fun!

How does it feel coming out to LA and sharing it at IndieCade?
Amazing. I've never been to anything like this before, and knowing that my game is being recognized there makes it all the more awesome.

What are you looking forward to at IndieCade other than possibly being bought out by Sony?
Haha. I just really want to network with awesome people and play cool indie games. Just looking at the nominee list, it is clear that a LOT of amazing games will be there. I really can't wait.

Top games you want to check out at IndieCade?
There are so many games I've been meaning to play but haven't. This will be the perfect opportunity! Sokobond, Gone Home, Gunpoint, and many many more.
