AFI Fest 2014 Top Picks

AFI Fest 2014 returns with a large collection of films for you to have your mouth water over, if a films fan or someone seeking to look away from Netflix or be one of those people who reviews the film before it's been on Netflix for very long. AFI Fest takes over Hollywood with the Chinese and Egyptain holding a huge amount of film over the course of a few days; Nov 6-13.

Remember, all these movies are free to attend, you can buy a festival pass, getting you in ahead of everybody and securing you a seat.

Reality

Chinese 6 11/09/2014, 4:00 p.m

Anything by Quentin Dupieux has to be screened with a live audience; I have a poster of Rubber behind me as I type this. His latest surreal child is about a cameraman from a television show offered  to direct and things get weird from there.

Wild Tales

Chinese 6 11/08/2014, 8:30 p.m.
Chinese 6 11/10/2014, 12:15 p.m.

An anthology of six films from Spain that seem to all snap at a certain point.

Over Your Dead Body

Chinese 3 11/08/2014, 10:30 p.m.
Chinese 5 11/11/2014, 7:45 p.m

Takashi Miike, man this guy is prolific, makes it in with Over Your Dead Body about actors rehearsing a classical play and getting stuck in their on ghost story. The special gore effects look like they'll make you squirm.

What We Do In Shadows
Chinese 1 11/08/2014, 11:59 p.m.
Chinese 6 11/11/2014, 4:00 p.m.

I heard about this one from a friend a while ago. Who knew New Zealand could make comedies so funny? Three vampire bachelors get on each others nerves while un-living together in a shared apartment.

Felt

Chinese 6 11/10/2014, 9:30 p.m.
Chinese 5 11/12/2014, 1:00 p.m.

I've never felt this way before. A woman copes with her problems by creating another version of herself using her craft and sewing skills. It looks like a horror movie, but plays like a drama.

Egyptian 11/08/2014, 11:00 am

After the success of Birdman, you can keep these two in a cage. That film reminded me too much of Death to Smoochy, anyway listen to Batman and the Hulk hold a conversation.

For the Netflix fan

Chinese 4 11/07/2014, 4:30 p.m.
Chinese 4 11/08/2014, 12:45 p.m.

A doc on three years spent on China’s  train system, full of laughs...probably not.

Chinese 1 11/07/2014, 9:30 p.m.
Chinese 2 11/12/2014, 12:30 p.m.

It's a doc about hockey in Russia, specifically the Soviet Union’s Red Army hockey team. One of those docs that embraces the culture of the time and connects soemthing as innocent as hockey to the problems of the Soviet Union.
