Weekly What To Do: Grand Art Time


 
 
California Clean Air Day is Wednesday, Oct. 5, and Metro is offering free rides on our bus, rail and bike share systems! Use the Transit app or the trip planner on metro.net to plan your trip.

Please spread the word. Smog has been a wicked public health issue in our region for a century — and a big driver of that (pun intended) has been the high volume of people driving alone in gas-powered cars.

Grand Park, powered by The Music Center, celebrates its yearlong 10th anniversary with a spectacular two-day festival for the entire family filled with live music performances, innovative art installations, wellness workshops and activities and more. The weekend celebration, October 8 – 9, 2022, highlights the signature free events that laid the foundation over the past decade for Grand Park to become L.A.’s central gathering place and honors the legacy of performers, artists, community partners, audiences and parkgoers who helped to shape Grand Park as the park for everyone.

The Orange County Museum will open in its new home on the campus of Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa, California on October 8 with a 24-hour celebration.The museum’s 24-hour party, which officially opens the new space, will begin at 5 PM on October 8, 2022, with a celebratory drumline procession down Avenue of the Arts. This non-stop open house will feature activities including exhibition tours, a rooftop dance party with KCRW’s Jason Bentley, fireworks, a late-night silent disco, art making, “Movies for Insomniacs” programed with Frida Cinema, and sunrise yoga. Special art-themed performances will be offered by Pacific Chorale, Philharmonic Society of Orange County, Pacific Symphony, OC Gospel Choir, and students from the Orange County School of the Arts.

Scandinavian Design and the United States, 1890–1980 is the first exhibition to examine the extensive design exchanges between the United States and the Nordic countries (Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden) during the 20th century. Serving as a corrective to the dominant narrative of central European émigrés shaping modern American design culture, the exhibition will present a new international story.
