LACMA re-opens afters two decades this Sunday, more specifically the new David Geffen Galleries have their ribbon-cutting. Following that, members will get to preview the museum and in early May it's open to the public. Oh, and LACMA sort of just sneakily added haught-tauty Erewhon as the cafe of the new museum, which is so LA, it couldn't be more so. So, enjoy $$$ water...who knows it's Erewhon.
The new LACMA was designed by architect Peter Zumthor and the building has be controversial in it's design for some time. The LA Times, didn't pull any punches, but still, it looks like you'll be in awe of it, upon being there. Created as the home for LACMA’s permanent collection to keep retaining art from patrons LACMA needed to keep up with the times. It needed a show new space and this is supposedly it.In a harder to explain move, but not for how LACMA roles, the building's inaugural installation is based on our oceans. You might be going, what? It uses the Pacific, Indian, and Atlantic Oceans and the Mediterranean Sea as some sort of a map/showcase art from it's vast collection.
We'll be covering the opening, so we'll be sharing the experience as we see it and swimming in it. Not sure, if will get anything at Erewhon.
