With  so much museum talk and a talk about the new LACMA Galleries opening up there was some startling news to hear that both the Getty Center is shutting down for improvements and George C. Page Museum, which people think of as the La Brea Tar Pits and Museum.

Getty Center will temporarily close to LA's public March 15th next year, 2027, with reopening planned for spring 2028, before the Olympics.

You can read about all the improvements to the Getty Center here

 Page Museum

The La Brea Tar Pits and Page Museum closes this July 6th. This year. They don't have a concrete re-opening date, but say it'll take them two years to make improvements, so some time in 2028.

There's some events to enjoy before it closes:

"Visitors are invited to experience the Page Museum before its next chapter begins, including a free public KCRW Summer Nights with La Brea Tar Pits event on June 12, featuring after-hours access and site-wide programming, as well as Last Dance at La Brea Tar Pits, a disco-themed dance party on June 27."

And, you'll still be able to enjoy the park, not the smell, but the park:
"Hancock Park will remain open throughout the transformation, which includes a new, 1-kilometer pedestrian loop through the park that connects active excavation sites, research and exhibition spaces, and a central green into a single, continuous experience. Access to walking paths, green space, and outdoor features will be phased in coordination with construction."

And, as I wrote earlier, you can snag tickets for a conversation between LACMA CEO and Wallis Annenberg Director Michael Govan with Peter Zumthor, the world-renowned architect of LACMA’s new David Geffen Galleries, as part of the museum’s Genesis Talks series.

On Wednesday, April 22, at 7:00 pm, just days after the opening of the transformative Geffen Galleries, the two will dive into the design of the building—exploring light, space, and the power of architecture to shape the museum experience.

Then, there's the Lucas Narrative Museum opening later this year too.
