Gallery 1988 Calling It Quits

Sad news, Gallery 1988, one of or earliest and most prolific of galleries we've covered is winding down operations this April. Jeez, we've covered countless openings and shows at the gallery...when they still had a physical gallery. The news dropped yesterday, April 1st, making many people hope it was a poorly conceived April Fools prank. Alas, it's not. After two decades and more of seeing scores of amazing artists do pieces based on movies, TV, anime, games and more...Gallery 1988 is shutting down. The pop culture we're losing made better by artists taking it to another level; it's gonna be missed.

Here's coverage from one of our fav artists from the gallery, it's the Olly Moss Solo Show

You can read Katie Sutton's goodbye post on social media below. Her and Jensen Karp are or soon...were the co-owner's of Gallery 1988.

"Guys what can I say… after 22 years we’re closing down the gallery. These past few years have been hard, and the market is the worst I’ve seen it in over two decades. I really tried to keep things going, especially for our amazing artists, but sadly here we are… April will be our last month.
.
Beyond the sadness of this decision, I take so much comfort reflecting on what we built. Jensen and I never in a million years could have imagined the gallery would become what it did. How lucky were we? We got to work on the most incredible projects with the most creative and talented artists. We were just kids but we got to meet the coolest people and literally grow up alongside them in this weird, beautiful, fun space. It really was the best job in the world.
.
Thank you to everyone who stepped foot inside the gallery, or bought a piece, or told their friends about us. We loved being the place where people made their very first art purchase ❤️  And to our amazing staff who hung on despite the neverending chaos.
.
And most of all thank you to every single artist who trusted us with their work. Without you guys we were nothing. You all built the gallery and I am forever grateful.

Fuck AI art and PLEASE keep supporting human artists 🙏 The people we worked with can create artwork far superior to anything a computer can spit out. If you love the type of art we showed, below are some places you can still find it.
