Weekly What To Do: Not The Luckiest of Fridays

* We don't see any musical based on zombies or video games this year, sigh.

The Hollywood Fringe Festival is an annual, open-access, community-derived event celebrating freedom of expression and collaboration in the performing arts community. Each June during the Hollywood Fringe, the arts infiltrate the Hollywood neighborhood: fully equipped theaters, parks, clubs, churches, restaurants and other unexpected places host hundreds of productions by local, national, and international arts companies and independent performers.

This one looks fun though:
Evil schemes are afoot in Cauldron, a metropolis of merchants built into the caldera of a long-dormant volcano. To foil the agenda of evil cultists, The Brute Squad must brave haunted jungle ruins, slay mighty dragons, and bind themselves to a layer of the infinite Abyss. Will their swords and spells be enough to save the Shackled City?

Known for using a straightedge and knife to craft his compositions, Liu has taken his study of perception to new heights with ‘Strata.’Brian “Dovie” Golden is a visual artist who uses painting and drawing as an introspective tool for understanding issues of identity, race, gender and mental health, as well as an attempt to reconcile the harsh realities of life. One of Chicago’s most visible working artists—you can find dozens of his murals dotting the Loop and South Shore—Don’t Fret is also one of its most secretive, putting up his large works while the rest of the city sleeps.

DREAM NO EVIL (1970) and DARK AUGUST (1976)
Aug 15, 2021 7:30 PM
Free, Must RSVP
Online

DREAM NO EVIL (1970): There’s a good number of uneasy terror epics that dip their toes in dreamlike delirium, but this one right here is the realest of deals. A peculiar young high-diver (Brooke Mills) is pulled away from her Hell-themed circus act (!!!) to live with her undead father (veteran actor Edmond O’Brien) in a surreal landscape that’s as much Lars von Trier’s Dogville as it is rural gothic.DARK AUGUST (1976): Fleeing his fresh divorce and big city headaches, a swingin’ New Yorker relocates to Vermont and immediately mows down the granddaughter of the local embittered elderly warlock. Psychic assaults and ‘70s occult hysteria ensue as rural sorcery is unleashed.
