Why did you put this in October with Halloween stuff? Utterly weird time to release Paramount. That aside, let's get into the film.Gotta say for any fight game fans Street Fighter totally delivers and doesn't pull any punches. It's a ridiculous spectacle set in the 90's and totally works if you're a gamer or just out for some juvenile fun. This is a buddy action comedy. And they managed to cram enough of the street fighters in there to sooth your gamer soul.
Here's a few punches of why it just works:
-Didn't expect the spot-on anime scenes. Yes, there's really well animated scenes that could have made this movie fully an anime.
-Smoking hot ladies who kick-ass. Callina Liang as Chun-Li, Mel Jarnson as Cammy White & Rayna Vallandingham as Juli all did an amazing job pulling of complex martial moves and acting furiously insane.
-There's plenty of nice "abs" for the ladies too.
-Totally forgot 50 Cent is in it as Balrog and he does a great job with his swagger and being a bad guy. Plus, he comes in on his own music.
- David Dastmalchian playing M. Bison totally works as he plays Bison as a total freak, who seems to smell people' s feet.
-Didn't expect it to be so funny. Sometimes they just go with jokes you didn't expect, but that's always been the humor of the series in the games. Childish, Capcom humor. Cody Rhodes as Guile is heavily a part of that with the strangest lines out of anyone.
-The "Tuesday" line is in there and it totally works.
- Great nostalgia trip for anyone who grep up when the games were coming out.
What really worked is that it didn't take itself as seriously as Mortal Kombat II. Sure, there's some pretty serious scenes and stakes, but there's great levity to even it out.
The worry is, why release when people are going for scares and haunts. The audience might wait for this one to hit streaming or rental. If you need a break from screams, see it in theaters and enjoy all the action.
