A lot has changed since the original Panty & Stocking was dubbed and released by Funimation. It has been 15 years. Funimation is now gone and streaming is the name of the game. Hell, Gainax the original corporation behind the anime is gone and the show is now with Trigger, the offshoot of Gainax. Going into another story that's one of the reasons it took so long for a new series to come out. And, now it's a bit odd that the new series just started releasing on Amazon Prime instead of Crunchyroll.
New PANTY & STOCKING with GARTERBELT's animation and dirty sense of humor is totally intact. Sadly, its original English voice dub cast is not and it sucks. The original English dub voice cast not only dubbed the show, but localized it and made the humor more their own. Jamie Marchi and Monica Rial made Panty and Stocking the angels you loved to hate and go horny for. Christopher Sabat was Garterbelt and the best muthf*cka for it.
The new version lacks the energy of voice actor veteran Colleen Clinkenbeard as previous season's ADR director or voice director and the voice of Scanty. She let her cast go into their character's jokes. It doesn't seem that way here.
No statement was given on the change, but we can assume without Funimation around anymore and their team of voice actors on call, Trigger really didn't care how the English dub was gonna be handled by Amazon.
The new team is okay, but Hell it's never gonna be as good as the original team. And, if Amazon was gonna spend the money on getting the series it could have hired the same voice actors.
Sigh, so that's why we've got dem' New PANTY & STOCKING with GARTERBELT English Dub Blues.
