Jonathan's Friday Night Movie: Kindergarten Cop

Movie Nights with the TTDILA crew happen every Friday, unless something's gotta be covered. A holdover from Covid, its become an institution, as such, we have a whole insane system in place on what is chosen. Which, I'll get into another time. I'm Jonathan, Editor of Things To Do In LA. And this week on my Friday Night Movie it's Kindergarten Cop.

Before you ask, yes, I've seen it. I've seen it a million times thanks to USA Network.

Kindergarten Cop stars Arnold Schwarzenegger as a cop posing as a kindergarten teacher to find a bad guy whose son is in the class. It's such an insane concept when you think about it, but it held my attention the multiple times I saw it before streaming.

I usually do a quick dive for movie posters and info on the film that wins (more on that later) and there are some gems for Kindergarten Cop.

Below and above is a fake copy of Criterion's release of Kindergarten Cop. Sorry, it doesn't exist. Just some fun someone posted in the Reddit Criterion section. I won't lie, I'd probably buy it if it were real.

The strangest thing when looking for clips of Schwarzenegger shenanigans was being reminded that there's an awful looking cartoon called Stan Lee's Superhero Kindergarten.

Arnold stars in it voicing a gym teacher who trains small children to be superheros. Created in 2019 it didn't come out till 2021.  It's back story from Wikipedia is just jarring as it seems like it's the legacy sequel to Kindergarten Cop.

During an April 2021 interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Schwarzenegger stated that the idea behind the making of Superhero Kindergarten came from his desire "to do a sequel to Kindergarten Cop".[16] Schwarzenegger reiterated this in a May 2021 interview on The Kelly Clarkson Show, while adding that Stan Lee told him "[he had] an idea for an animated show. What about Superhero Kindergarten, where you're a kindergarten teacher for kids who have superpowers? You have been a superhero yourself (in the show) but you're now retired and teaching those kids how to be good contributors and how to save the world in the future".[17]

This section will dive further into background stuff behind showing a movie for movie night and having fun with it. As well as a reminder to maybe check out a classic, cult our utterly bonkers film over the weekend with your own friends.

Big difference from all the movie events we remind you of to see out here is we TALK over the movie all the time. And, of course riffing on it.
