New Year's Day 2026

We love the Daily News here...really any of our local news sources. There's a nice article on the upcoming Rose Parade floats.

Celebrate the Rose Parade presented by Honda and Rose Bowl Game presented by Prudential in Pasadena, CA on January 1, 2026.

The writer is definitely not a fan of Star Trek. She gets iconic locations used in Star Trek on the float totally correct with Vasquez Rocks (where  Captain Kirk fights a Gorn) and the Golden Gate Bridge of San Francisco (where Starfleet Headquarters is supposed to based). What she just misses the mark on is the famous saying associated with the series with her version:

“beam me up, Scott”

Just add a "y" to Scott and you would have had it. "Beam up Scotty!", is the correct line, though it's a  misquotation as no one has ever said it in Star Trek. People just use it and it's a nice way of saying, "Get me out of here." Listen we get it, it was just a mistake, we've probably done it a lot too, but you're editors not catching it... tells me they aren't fans of Trek either.
She updated it, but here's the original to prove I'm not crazy.

Pre-recorded Q&A with Francis Ford Coppola
Featuring a pre-recorded Q&A with filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola
Alamo Drafthouse Downtown

"Like the famed empire that Francis Ford Coppola’s epic passion project is styled after, MEGALOPOLIS is a towering, monumental spectacle that most people will think about at least once a day. The City of New Rome is at a crossroads. At one end sits Cesar Catilina (Adam Driver), the idealistic artist striving for a utopian future, and at the other sits Mayor Franklin Cicero (Giancarlo Esposito), a powerful figure perpetuating greed, special interests, and partisan warfare. Their titanic struggle will shake the foundations of their city and lay the groundwork for a new tomorrow."

DYNASTY TONIGHT!
TLDR Version: Dynasty Tonight! is a semi-weekly live show with performances from great stand-up comics and musical and variety acts! Often VERY famous people pop-in! We only pick performers we truly love (as artists and humans!) because that’s what YOU deserve.

Curious Version:

Dynasty Tonight! is a Dynasty entertainment tradition over 300 years young. Dynasty founders, Jamie Flam and Vanessa Ragland, have made it their mission to continue the centuries-old inspirational work of their forebearers, Orl & Halcyon Dynasty - that is, creating enchanting experiences for humans. The location has changed (from a bat-ruled cave on a secret island to a historic theater in the heart of Los Angeles) but the spirit remains: Dynasty Tonight! is a celebration of the human experience, human expression, human connection, and out-of-this worrrrlllld popcorn.

The movie so sexy and thirst-quenching, we had to bring it back for another debaucherous screening! The boys are back in town and ready to take it off and throw down! Three years after Mike bowed out of the stripper life at the top of his game, he and the remaining Kings of Tampa hit the road to Myrtle Beach to put on one last blow-out performance. At its heart, Jaws (1975) taps into primal human fears — of nature, the animal kingdom, and of no longer being the dominant species. Inspired by the Academy Museum’s recently opened Jaws: The Exhibition, this series takes a wide-ranging look at sinister animals in popular cinema throughout the last seven decades.

The remarkable success of Spielberg’s film has itself helped inspire five decades of aquatic terror. Its release was quickly followed by threats both large (the grieving, revenge-seeking killer whale of Orca) and small (the mutated Piranha). Sharks have menaced humankind in secret labs (Deep Blue Sea) and idyllic coves (The Shallows). Alligators and crocodiles have run rampant in the Australian wilderness (Rogue), hurricane-plagued Florida (Crawl), and even the sewers of Chicago (Alligator).

How else to celebrate the vOiD, but with a movie of the same name.

This psychedelic tour of life after death is seen entirely from the point of view of Oscar, a young American drug dealer and addict living in Tokyo with his prostitute sister, Linda. When Oscar is killed by police during a bust gone bad, his spirit journeys from the past — where he sees his parents before their deaths — to the present — where he witnesses his own autopsy — and then to the future, where he looks out for his sister from beyond the grave.

Fackham Hall Is Ready For Rent

Another recommendation....(sigh) since Bleecker Street is being super weird with the marketing and distribution for this one. It's already out of theaters, but you can rent all over the place online. This British comedy is in the tone of the recent hit, The Naked Gun reboot. Except, this time it's mocking all the hoity-toity, British shows like Bridgerton and Downton Abbey.

It's just really strange how this couldn't have been recommended more or had some sort of reminders online. It lloks perfect if you're into British comedy.

LUPIN THE IIIRD: The Movie - The Immortal Bloodline Jan 4-6

Oooh, been waiting for this one. Enjoy Lupin The 3rd again on the big screen ending out his latest incarnation. This ties all the way back to the original Lupin movie from the 70's,  Lupin III: The Mystery of Mamo.

No Other Choice In Theaters

In this time of of the vOiD we highly recommend seeing, "No Other Choice." Out of South Korea, it's basically the new Parasite. A dark comedy thriller, that is so close to perfect. Great new poster for its release in the US from James Jean.

"From director Park Chan-wook and based on Donald E. Westlake's novel THE AX, the story
follows Man-su on his desperate hunt for a new job after his abrupt layoff from the paper
company he served for 25 years."

It's only giving you a real dry sense of what's going on, but by G-d was it beautifully shot.

Made in L.A. 2025 is the seventh iteration of the Hammer’s signature biennial exhibition that showcases artists practicing throughout the greater Los Angeles area. The 28 participants in the exhibition present work not only made in the city but also grounded in its complex and unfolding terrain. Neither myth nor monolith, Los Angeles is many things to many people, and its dissonance is perhaps its most distinguishing feature. The works presented in this year’s biennial include film, painting, theater, choreography, photography, sculpture, sound, and video. Attitude draws them together: Each engages with this city in ways alternately literal, formal, material, and metaphoric. Conceived or made in Los Angeles, they are of this city and nowhere else.

Drawing is a skill, gained like any other through study and practice. Combining the movement of the hand with the dedication of the mind, drawing was considered the foundation of the arts of painting, sculpture, and architecture since the Renaissance. Proficiency in drawing was critical for exploring, inventing, and communicating ideas visually, but how was this foundational ability actually learned? This exhibition explores artistic training and the mastery of drawing in Europe from about 1550 to 1850.

Mega64 Christmas Cast 2025 & MLK Week Compilation "The Room"

Mega64's annual food eating contest is ready for a Christmas watch. It's as charming as it is gross (there is vomiting). It's a crazy live event, now formatted down so you can enjoy, but probably go in on a light stomach. Probably one of our favorite Christmas traditions, hopefully they do bring back HanukkahCast, which had some fun Jewish nosh and games.

Coming out daily is a day-by-day break down dubbed Mega64's MLK Week Compilation "The Room". This was a horrible endeavor by Rocco, of the above comedy/gamer group Mega64. He essentially was stuck in a room live on Twitch for all of MLK week this year. He was at the mercy of the Internet and it was unkind. Constant memes and songs jutted out on the screen with a huge speaker he could not turn off and other chaos almost instantly drove Rocco mad. Now, you can watch it compiled into an hour for each day he was stuck inside "the room".

2026 Palm Springs International Film Festival Top Picks

Did you know the Palm Springs International Film Festival starts immedialety in 2026? Well, it does and here our some top picks if you want to start off the new year in lovely Palm Springs.

The Plague

A group of boys at summer camp believe an inexplicable disease is spreading among them in this psychological thriller that instinctively captures the combustible nature of adolescence.

* Now, this one, this one looks like a really messed up time. I remember it having special showings in LA, Patton Oswalt praising it, because people knew it would be a 2026 big one.

BOORMAN AND THE DEVIL

Long misunderstood as one of Hollywood’s most catastrophic failures, director John Boorman’s Exorcist II: The Heretic receives a second look in this fascinating chronicle of its journey to the big screen.

*Oddly, in other screenings the usually get the film Exorcist II: The Heretic to watch after the doc, so you watch it with a sense of the work put into it. Watching it on its own, Heretic is gonna be a very silly movie.

GOOD LUCK, HAVE FUN, DON’T DIE

Sam Rockwell leads an all-star cast in this gonzo time-traveling adventure to save the world from AI-driven apocalypse, as directed by visionary populist filmmaker Gore Verbinski.

After being laid off and struggling to secure employment, a desperate family man decides that the only way to land a new job is to take out the competition—literally. Winner: International People’s Choice Award, TIFF.

*You can just say the Parasite of 2026.

A young girl’s inexplicable newfound telepathy dumbfounds her middle-class parents in this darkly comic and often blistering portrait of the nuclear family.

Featuring captivating performances from Bill Skarsgård, Dacre Montgomery, Colman Domingo, and Al Pacino, Gus Van Sant’s latest recreates the strange, fascinating true story of the 1977 kidnapping that made aspiring Indianapolis entrepreneur Tony Kiritsis into an eccentric outlaw folk hero.

A professor and his mysterious gardener commit a startling act of vengeance in this hypnotic and haunting meditation on family, masculine fragility, and mirroring identities.

In this endearing documentary, global porridge-makers descend upon the Scottish Highlands to compete in a legendary tournament to determine who can cook the best bowl of slow-cooked oats in the world.

*Oh, easy watching on a Sunday. One of those docs you just chill out on Netflix. Sadly, the showtimes for this one blow.

In 1990s Iraq, two children tasked by their tyrannical teacher with providing desserts to celebrate Saddam Hussein’s birthday set out on a chaotic quest to source the ingredients.

Maravilla crafts a ritual that references his experience as an undocumented unaccompanied child fleeing El Salvador’s civil war as a minor and his later colon cancer, inviting audience members to experience a collective energy. A Performance brings together healers from around the world along with local artists based in Los Angeles for an evening of sound, vibration, and resonance as a means of care and recovery.

The Muppet Script returns to bring you THE MUPPET SCRIPTMAS CAROL! When most people think of the Muppets, they think of the colorful characters made out of fleece and foam. But as with every movie, it all starts on the written page. Before returning to the big screen, the Muppets team returned to the writers' room. Muppets scribe JERRY JUHL was inspired by CHARLES DICKENS’ classic holiday tale to take the gang to merry old London in the 1800’s, in their first movie without creator JIM HENSON, directed by his son, BRIAN HENSON. The movie featured the return of maestro PAUL WILLIAMS to craft a soundtrack that is just as timeless as Dickens’s original novel.

This performance will be raising funds for ONE SIMPLE WISH. Every day, One Simple Wish works tirelessly to amplify the voices of individuals impacted by foster care and crisis through their often simple, yet always meaningful wishes. With our support, One Simple Wish can continue to build their network of over 2,000 social service agencies and nonprofits all across the United States, ensuring that everyone feels seen, heard, and loved.
