RIP Akira Toriyama

The legendary creator of Dragon Ball has passed on. Sadly, Akira Toriyama had died at the early age of 68. We celebrate his impact on the world with his fantastic art and stories. So much of Dragon Ball and his other art from Dragon Quest & Dr. Slump has leaked out to make the world so much better. He will be missed for so many amazing memories.

I can remember catching Dragon Ball Z after school, playing countless hours of Budokai on my PS2. Endlessly trying to figure out how powerful Goku would get to defeat his foes. AAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! Oh, and the constant screaming learned from the show. Let's not forget the lovely ladies that he drew either. Thanks for opening the world of anime babes to us. It's a lifetime of memories I share with so many other fans. There's just to much to list of how much Dragon Ball and Toriyama has meant to me and so many other people.

And, Dragon Ball endures to this day with a new anime that looks kind of dumb, new games and basically being copied in one way or another on the big and small screen. You can get your kids to watch something you grew up with. You can be a real Dad, like Piccolo.
Akira Toriyama

Back in 2014, I helped put on a Dragon Ball Z/ Akira Toriyama Tribute show with Q Pop and I consider
it one of the best events Things To Do In LA has been a part of. We had a Power Up Contest, that should be at every DBZ event, you can see it below. Enjoy the screams, but turn down your speakers just in case.

Thanks for everything, Toriyama!

Movie Hype: Los Angeles Festival of Movies Films, Fallout April 11, Frogman & Chicken for Linda!

We're actually on board with Fallout the series heading to Prime April 11th after watching the trailer. All episodes are out that day. Not the best sign, though. Or maybe Amazon doesn't have a lot of hope for this one. For other series they've released they come out weekly. And marketing has been a lot stronger.

Haven't heard of any LA based special pop-ups for it yet.

Amazon had some definitely bad marketing before this with little to nothing about it except for an AI generated reminder everyone hated.

Frogman, a very scary looking found footage horror film is out online March 8th.

Chicken for Linda! is out April 8th in theaters from Gkids, a cute animated film from France, that's been doing well at festivals around the world.

Synopsis:Paulette feels guilty after unjustly punishing her daughter Linda and would do anything to make it up to her. Linda immediately asks for a meal of chicken with peppers, which reminds her of the dish her father used to make. But with a general strike closing stores all across town and pushing people into the streets, this innocent request quickly leads to an outrageous series of events that spirals out of control, as Paulette does everything she can to keep her promise and find a chicken for Linda.

Sonic Dust: Live Activation and Performances
Sunday, March 10th | 2-5 pm
Elysian Park (exact coordinates shared later )
The event will begin at 2:00pm, and performances will commence at 3:00pm.

M&A invites you to join us for a live activation of Sonic Dust, our newest issue of M&A Archtiecture Radio, and experimental music performances by issue contributors Cody Perkins, Daniel Tovar, and Isaac Pross!

Sonic Dust explores the material, metaphor, and mobile conditions of dust, smog, and smoke and the generative engagements between beings and space. Inherently liminal as something both precarious and dynamic, dust is a formless challenger of form that subverts economies of order from architecture’s materiality, to the binary of cleanliness/dirtiness, to a possible method for “de-in-visibilizing” matter we otherwise ignore.

Movie Hype: And the Razzie Goes to..., Cuckoo, Riddle of Fire, Ruined Stunts & I Saw The TV Glow

The Criterion Channel will be showing past Razzie award winners starting in March. Oh, woah, curation on a Streaming service, Criterion you actually get it. And the Razzie Goes to . . . will be their themed section. And, paint them any color you want, those movies suck, but can be fun to see.

When news was coming out about this I thought Criterion was actually gonna broadcast the Razzie Awards...sadly that isn't happening, but would have loved them doing it and then breaking down why those movies are so disliked. And, the effort or possible lack there of that made them. Like just some well-versed critics or movie buffs breaking it down for you.

Saturday, March 9, 2024 - "Winners" of 44th Razzies announced

Looks like an instant classic to me.

/Film is a mixed bag, but sometimes has some great opinion posts. If it isn't a list of who's still alive from a movie or a show I'll probably check it out. Also, you creepy /Film, why write articles just telling me whose still alive from something?

Anyway, here's a good one on Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One and how its ads ruined a really cool stunt in the movie.

Terrible Marketing Ruined One Of The Most Astonishing Movie Moments Of The Year

Been waiting on this one since hearing about it and Sundance. I Saw The TV Glow, coming soon, meaning, May 3.
