My Famicase Exhibition In LA July

Woah, My Famicase Exhibit comes to LA this July, thanks to Capsule Corner. We've showcased and even been a part of the annual game cartridge art show and are delighted it'll be headed to our neck of the woods. We'll have more details as it makes its way here.

Hype: Glen Brogan Covers Art, "Super" Star Trek & Resident Evil The... Huh, they didn't rename it, it's just Resident Evil...Okay

One of Glen Brogan's pieces for the "Covers" Art Show over at Hero Complex Gallery, which doesn't seem to be openings anymore.

Here's the other

Farmer's Almanac by Glen Brogan

One of my favorite blogs, Super Punch, is trying to sell me on Star Trek: Strange New Worlds and every time they write about it, it's more like they're trying to justify that it exists.

"I gave up on Discovery early in season three, and gave up on Picard early in season one, but the new show just might be ok. My gorilla channel review: the beginning is slow and the resolution is eye-rolling, but the episode is great from when they arrive at the destination planet to when they allow themselves to be captured. Pike has great hair, the new character is intriguing, and episode one was genuinely repeatedly funny."

Episode 1

"Deeply forgettable plot and tedious spaceship flying, but the characters remain really likeable and interesting, and Pike's hair only gets taller."

Episode 2

I've only watched episode 1 myself and won't try and justify it. What a relatable show, seeing your comically tragic death any time you look in a reflective surface, sheesh. I look forward more to The Orville, which is the best version of Star Trek right now.

Resident Evil...the series? Not sure; it's just called Resident Evil from Netflix; is another nonsense concept that seems to have even less to do with the game than the recent bad reboot movie. Set in the future with none of the characters from the series, 'cept Albert Wesker, who is race swapped for seemingly no reason.

It's not hard to understand why they wanted the Resident Evil name attached, but it looks like another Cowboy Bebop or Halo show where the people behind it never sat down and played the games or watched the anime.

It can't get dislikes anymore, but the comments on YouTube for the trailer aren't supportive.

*We mean, why does this exist? What kind of numbers will this get online. So utterly strange. Here's a whole article on it from Japan House.

Japanese food is admired worldwide for its visual appeal, with ingredients arranged and combined so artistically that a meal might be a feast for the eyes as much as the mouth. Japan is also famous for its plastic food samples, or “sampuru,” – replicas that are displayed in restaurant windows to show the food served inside and entice passersby. Iwasaki Mokei is one of the best-known food replica companies, based in Gujo Hachiman in Gifu prefecture. Since 1955, the company has been producing replicas that are designed not to simply copy the food but to convey its deliciousness too.

Mr. Seigo Kozakai, the CEO of Iwasaki Mokei will give a presentation with slides about the art and business of food replicas, the importance of this industry in Japanese culinary culture, and the future role of his company in promoting Japanese food in Japan and beyond.

Borrowing its name from the phrase cultural historian Mike Davis used to describe how Los Angeles is more sinister, intense, and foreboding than the city’s boosters care to admit, Sunshine and Noir: 1980s L.A. Horror Marathon takes a deep dive into the L.A.-based horror films that terrorized a generation and continue to define its fears. Curated by Wynter Mitchell-Rohrbaugh and Cinematic Void at the American Cinematheque, the marathon foregrounds the contributions of women and people of color, while also illuminating the ways in which horror films played out 1980s L.A.’s preoccupation with ambition, health, and wealth. Featuring a combination of film screenings and guest artist panels, Sunshine to Noir promises a chilling descent into the City of Angels’ dark side and a nostalgia trip of epic proportions for those whose first encounters with horror took place on VHS.

Suck on it PETA!
A furry free-for-all of a horror marathon -- an arkful of angry animals here to clear the decks of humanity!
After centuries of pollution and arrogance, it’s about time we’re taken out by Mother Nature. As such, these six mystery feature films are stocked to the gills with critters ready to unleash a bounty of guiltless killing. So root for the rooster and rally for the rodents, as bands of measly sapiens fend off creatures big and small -- and bigger!
Plus, we start with a community potluck. Stuff like chips and drinks are not encouraged; please bring a dish or other fun, picnic-worthy item! (Potluck covers the show’s first half; snacks and other food available at concessions for second half.)
The Secret Sixteen mission: to project horror/cult rarities exclusively from the portable, wondrous 16mm format. Hints are dropped, but titles are never revealed until they unspool onscreen.

Film and TV Hype: Paper Girls, What's Your Call Sign? Fantasia First Wave & The Pioneertown International Film Festival

via BD

We've been waiting for this one since we read the comic. Prime is making Brian K. Vaughan's comic about time traveling paper girls into a reality. We want a release date and a trailer. It becomes all kinds of a strange epic in the story. So here's hoping it gets to finish the whole story from the comics.

Top Gun: Maverick has a call sign maker, a nice little gimmick to remind you the movie comes out at the end of the month.

Fantasia announced it's first wave of films...and they're mouth-watering cinema. Deadstream had our attention since Southwest, but we've only just heard of the new ridiculous Japanese film Kappei about boys raised to survive the end of the world, but it never happens so they are all too powerful to do anything normal.

DEADSTREAM (USA) – Dirs: Vanessa Winter, Joseph Winter

Disgraced and demonetized after a public controversy, a washed up Internet personality tries to win back his followers by livestreaming himself spending one night alone in an abandoned haunted house. Unfortunately, he accidentally pisses off a vengeful spirit. A wild, splatstick cross between EVIL DEAD and the most ill-fated livestream imaginable. Official Selection: SXSW 2022. Canadian Premiere.

KAPPEI BRINGS JAPANESE COMEDY TO A NEW LEVEL OF PURE APOCALYPTIC FUN

Nostradamus predicted that the world would end in 1999, but he royally screwed up. In 2022, Kappei and his fellow doomsday warriors, isolated and trained since their childhood, must learn to live a “normal” life with great supernatural powers – but no social skills whatsoever. In his feature directorial debut KAPPEI, Takashi Hirano (producer of KAMIKAZE GIRLS) creates a wonderfully whimsical coming-of-age action-comedy with the help of screenwriter Yuichi Tokunaga (FLY ME TO THE SAITAMA) and a devilishly funny performance from Actor Hideaki Ito (LESSON OF THE EVIL, TOKYO VICE). North American Premiere.

We, however, don't care for Baby Assassins, also from Japan, that just isn't that fun.

And just another reminder that if you head out to the desert, specifically Pioneertown, you'll be at the first Pioneertown International Film Festival.  Which will have a Pie Duel, An American Tail: Fievel Goes West, and some new and old cowboy films, live music and more. It all takes place May 27-29, perfect for Memorial Day Weekend plans.

Hype: Dave Chappelle Okay After Attack, Media & Ice Cream To Look Out For

Dave Chappelle attacked onstage during performance at Hollywood Bowl

The NPR story ends on such a strange note

"This is not the first incident in Hollywood since the "slap heard 'round the world" at the Academy Awards. In March, a man reportedly pulled out a gun at a Hollywood comedy club attended by former world heavyweight champion Mike Tyson. In that case, the club patron reportedly said it was a joke, not a threat, and told Tyson he was a fan. The ex-boxer is said to have responded to him with a handshake and a hug."

Adam Conover is back and ready to look closely at how our government is run. And let's just say it doesn't like it's doing so great. The G Word with Adam Conover is out May 19th on Netflix.

Jackbox Party Starter is coming soon. Three of the best games from the packs. You've got  Quiplash 3, Trivia Murder Party 2 and Tee K.O. on the table.

Looks like a much faster or even easier to acces game night.

"We’ve updated Quiplash 3, Trivia Murder Party 2 and Tee K.O. with all of our most recent settings and improvements such as moderation, subtitles, content filtration, and settings menu upgrades. Additionally, we’ve fully localized the voice acting, subtitles and even credit songs in French, Italian, German and Spanish!"

Flux Gourmet from IFC looks like horror food porn and that makes sense coming from the guy who gave us Berberian Sound Studio. No details on when it's out. And this film isn't about taste, as you might see in the trailer, it's more about hearing that crunch. It's about how food sounds going in...and out, blech.

If you've seen all of The Book of Boba Fett, this is a real treat. What if Boba Fett was just really into Ice Cream?

Talking about Ice Cream, 31 Flavors/ Baskin-Robbins had a redesign and it makes us hungry! See the 31 hidden in plain-sight of the B & R? via dieline

This month's special flavor is Breakfast in Bed. Buttermilk pancake and maple syrup flavored ice creams, fluffy pancake pieces and a dreamy blueberry compote swirl combine to create a spoonful stacked with delicious breakfast flavors.
