Local Hype: Why The Bomb Squad Truck Failed, Plans For Expanded Convention Center & Illegal Weed Farms

-Expansion plans revealed for L.A. Convention Center and J.W. Marriott

"The Convention Center expansion, designed by Populous, would expand the facility's footprint through the construction of a new structure bridging over Pico Boulevard, connecting the original West Hall with the 1990s South Hall.  A full buildout would add approximately 193,000 square feet of exhibit space - resulting in a net total of roughly 1 million square feet of space across the facility - as well as 60,000 square feet of new meeting rooms and nearly 100,000-square-foot multipurpose hall at the top level."

"In the past two years, Villanueva’s department has opened criminal investigations into two key watchdogs — the inspector general and a member of the oversight panel. It has also investigated a former department official who played a role in disciplining deputies, and the sheriff has publicly accused the former county CEO of illegal activity."

-There's a lot of illegal cartel farms growing weed in our surrounding deserts and it really sucks for other farmers.

"The joint operation on June 8 resulted in a total of approximately 373,000 plants and 33,480 pounds of harvested marijuana, worth an estimated street value of $1.193 billion, according to L.A. County Sheriff Alex Villanueva."

Fortnite and LeBron's El Rey’s Taco Tuesday July 20-22

El Rey’s Taco Tuesday
Tuesday, July 20, with operations from 1 to 8 p.m., then 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, and finally 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday
8175 Melrose Avenue

"The pop-up will have immersive taco-themed items and decor from the game. As for the food, it’s unclear what the actual tacos will taste like or who will prepare them, but at least it won’t cost anything — the event is free for anyone who comes (and anyone going should expect long lines)."

Utterly Baffling Gameboy Space Jam: A New Legacy Scene

Space Jam: A New Legacy just doesn't care about how a Gameboy or video games work and Nintendo oddly let them throw their system in the garbage. The movie itself should be in the trash, but not a Gameboy.

The opening of the film has a young LeBron having a friend gift him a Gameboy with a Bugs Bunny
game as his friend just got the new Gameboy Color. That's an extremely nice gesture as that's like giving up your old Switch if you were say, getting the new OLED version. The kids barely dwell on it as they're at a basketball game.

LeBron then immediately gets called out for playing it too much, he just got it, and throws it in the trash?
*The  Bug Bunny game changes into a color version of itself even though it's an original Gameboy game which weren't colored.

He just threw away a Gameboy? How callous and a bit weird, a friend just gave it to him. That's a costly item for a kid to just dump. Imagine throwing away you Switch now or even your old DS after losing one game?

And even if it's an old product, Nintendo would have had to sign off on that for the film. Why Nintendo allowed it to be featured as trash at the start is strange.

There's more bad video game problems we won't get into, some we might leave up to the writer's just not caring. But, tossing a Gameboy in the trash was just an idiotic start to a movie that's more a commercial than it's predecessor.

Pioneertown International Film Festival Aug 27th-29th & Pioneer Bowl

$tarts at Weekend Pass $295, No individual screenings
Tickets on sale til Aug 4th

If you want to escape from LA for weekend there might not be a better place than Pioneertown. It's having it's first film festival the last weekend of August. This special event takes place where all the cowboys shows and westerns were shot outside of LA. About 40 minutes from Palm Springs and your in your own Western. It's a fun tourist trap town we've written about before.

The Pioneertown International Film Festival is a bit different. You can't just grab tickets to individual showings. You've got to go for the weekend pass to enjoy both the screenings and activities that include live music. Check out what's happening here.

You've got Neo Westerns to watch, restores calssics from Paramount and even some horseback rising if you RSVP.

The whole event sounds like something that should have happened in Pioneertown long ago. An underutilized place to visit on the weekend for LA folks.

And some other good news, they finally opened Pioneer Bowl. A cute old-style bowling alley ...in the old west. Pretty sure they didn't have bowling back then, but what better way to tell someone how you're weekend went. "Oh yeah, went to the old west and went bowling." This place looks to only be open on Saturdays though.

Only Saturdays 5:00 PM - 10:00 PM
53613 Mane St, Pioneertown, CA 92268
