Apostasy is Thinkspace’s third solo presentation of Super A’s work. His well-established alias is a creative alter identity created to explore more contentious and difficult subject matter as a muralist in the public sphere. His most recent body of works strips cartoon, fairytale, or pop cultural archetypes of their fantasy and veneer, revealing the realistic or historical counterparts beneath them. An apt commentary on the dissimulation of popular cultural mythology, Super A deconstructs its theater.

Zamudio’s new line of work has been immensely inspired by great works of cinematography, street art, and post-apocalyptic sci-fi novels. Using portraits as a snapshot of his own movie, blending reality with the surreal. Zamudio’s new work will be exploring new methods on how to bring cinematography onto the canvas.

Kyle Bryant graduated from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design with a BFA in 2008 and has been perfecting his special brand of what he refers to as “Present Surrealism” ever since, an aesthetic bordering on the edge of a believable reality. A fine artist focusing on woodcut printmaking, Bryant recently took his oeuvre into a new direction, by adding layering and dimension to his wood-carved works.

Black Christmas Which One To Choose?

Black Christmas, Black Christmas & Black Christmas might be on your holiday hit list for what to watch, but best to choose '74 and '06 and forget about the '09 remake.

Black Christmas (1974) is an old school slasher film and there's some totally 70's dialogue that tells you what era it's from. Amazingly, the police in it are actually competent and give a damn as soon as things go wrong, except for one cop working the front desk. He's the movie comic relief. It can be slow, but there's tension being built as a killer is right under the noses of his victims.

Black Christmas (2006) is a messed-up remake that's fun to watch if you've seen the original as two of the main girls come back as new characters. There's some fun over-the-top kills perfect for the holiday horror season. But it's no masterpiece, behind the scenes the film was disowned by its director and had a lot of meddling of the Weinsteins to make it more gory. The gore doesn't hurt it, but forget tension as it's all about the kills.

Black Christmas (2019) oh jeez, it's PG-13. People complain about how it's got feminist agenda in front of it being a horror movie, but the real problem is the lack of violence and good directing. If you're making a feminist movie in horror, go ahead a blow a guy's balls off with a shotgun; don't bore me with black goo instead of blood. And after just watching the other two, just awful stagnant camera shots. The film was rushed and it shows.

This Christmas remember to forgo the latest Black Christmas and choose the others in the trilogy.

Artist Suing LA & Museum For Throwing Away His Art

Can't wait for this to appear on Super Punch, but for real, it's pretty funny how stupid LA is when it comes to it's many different art projects.

Essentially, the artist wanted his work to look weathered

How the individual bags weathered the natural elements — the canvas fraying or the paint fading and cracking in the sun — was part of an artwork about longevity, Lew said. The bags were meant to develop individual character over time, as people do.

But a maintenance crew just thought they were taking down trash.

Also, it's nothing new, LA screws up art all the time, I renumber this from last year

Deathcember Review: Less An Advent Calendar Horror Anthology More of a Santa Kill Count Drinking Game

$4.99 to rent

A Christmas horror movie to remember and share has been a long time coming. And it's gonna be a long time coming still as Deathcember wastes all 24 chances. Watching with a group of friends is worth the rental to just admonish it or just drink every time Santa gets whacked, but if you're here for a decent horror anthology or the subgenre of X-Mas horror, you're getting coal this year.

Clocking in at 2 hours and 25, a lot of it is just end credits, you're getting bit-sized holiday horror with many ridiculous Santa's deaths, reindeer guts and brutality very unwholesome situations for the season. The problem is the inconsistency of the directors, actors and writers. Oddly, all the cinematographers did a really good job. But, they can't save Christmas or this movie.

You're welcomed to the film by a CGI mansion with different items strewn about a living room. Why not a wraparound story where a family hands each other gifts? With these items connecting each story? That would have made more sense and I just came up with it, while writing this. Instead you get a kind of fun calendar space opening up around the CGI image and then going down a blood/meat whole for each story. Then, back to the living room.

24 stories with sometimes good connections to Christmas. Or at least 2 times no connection, that the group or myself couldn't decipher. And then sometimes really stretching how it's connecting to Christmas come up. But for sure, usually an unresolved ending or just stupid ending will be shown. Why pull away from murder in a horror anthology? What, why no pay-off to your short?

It's such a grab bag of random that you'll be choosing what was your favorite and the one my friends and I probably rooted the most for was the Gumby rip-off gem of Crappy Christmas, which is beyond NSFW. I'm not telling you Jack about it other than it's not for kids and bad things happen to the one in this short.

My personal favorite was All Sales Fatal, which shares with us the fun of Christmas shopping and was definitely shot in LA. Love the use of a staple gun, though it could never work they way it did in the film.

From the consensus of the group many films could have been cut and it had nothing to do with being too over-the-top. We seemed to enjoy those the most. It's how some just weren't worthy to even put in.

Looking back on it, it's all for laughs any maybe WTF's. It's in no way a Christmas classic. It's more like someone threw whatever holiday decorations they had left in a garbage bag and beat it and they threw it around a CGI living room. You're renting it for the novelty of it being an advent calendar, not for anything else. Rent for fun and be done with it.

*There's a special 25th film after the credits.

GIRL LIKE ME Inspired By Akira

For whatever reason and no tie-in the latest music video from the Black Eyed Peas and Shakira is inspired by the well-known anime classic Akira. The anime film Akira has to do with psychic children and the destruction of Tokyo two more times. Well, really just a few parts deal with he anime, the rest is all over the place, but one thing is clear. Shakira is limber as ever, but Blacked Eyed Peas members can only flop their arms anymore.

Retro Game Camp Closed

Really sad to report that Retro Game Camp, the Japanese old school video game import store in Little Tokyo is closed with no sort of information if when it will reopen or if it'll ever reopen. Hopefully, it can come back one day. It closed back in October without really spreading the news. We just found out as Anime Jungle, the mega anime store, has closed it's door under the new stay-at-home orders just went into effect.

We just wrote about Retro Game Camp a year ago and what's it's like to work there.

A friend of the site just visited Game Dude and said there stock looks like it's getting low, probably due to the lack of visitors because of Covid.
