As part of Things To Do In LA's coverage of fun, interactive pop-ups, I attended the media preview for the Slime Life Café at Sloomoo Institute on November 19th, bringing my 4-year-old daughter along to test its family-friendly appeal. This limited-time event, running from November 19 to December 21, 2025, transforms the already playful Sloomoo Institute into an even more immersive slime wonderland through a partnership with MGA Entertainment's new Slime Life brand. Conveniently located near The Grove and the original Farmers Market, Sloomoo Institute, billed as the #1 slime experience, is now in seven cities across the U.S. My daughter dubbed it the "slime factory," a catchier name that perfectly captures its hands-on vibe.

The main draw is Slime Life, MGA's hyper-realistic collection of do-it-yourself (DIY) slime kits inspired by iconic foods like burgers and donuts. These kits let you assemble eerily lifelike slime creations, then smash them for that ultimate satisfying squish. At the Slime Life Café, guests enjoy a tray that includes a base slime donut, pink slime icing, and a cup of sprinkles to decorate however they like. The baked dessert scent is fantastic! It’s sweet and nostalgic, yet very artificial. Love it! Once decorated, you can snap photos amid realistic food displays or a giant bowl of Slime Life fruity cereal slime, then stretch and smash your creation to bits.

Beyond the café, Sloomoo's standard interactive experiences shine. The DIY Slime Bar is a highlight: Start with one of eight base slime textures—think fluffy, buttery, gritty, or bubbly—each with unique properties like sound effects or bubble-forming ability. I was surprised by the variety! Who knew slime could be "buttery" or unpleasantly gritty like "Snow Fizz"? My daughter and I both loved the clear base for its classic sliminess. From there, choose from dozens of scents via coin-operated vending machines (pro tip: the dessert ones pair perfectly with the café theme); add dry pigment for color, and mix it all up for a personalized take-home slime. With over 4 million possible combinations, it's endlessly customizable.

Other attractions add to the sensory fun, like the Slimey Gallery with over 30 vats of slime in wild textures (cloud, jelly, icee) and scents, the Sloomoo Sling Shot for launching goo at targets, Lake Sloomoo (a massive pool of cloud slime you can wade through), and FrooFroo's Feels—a blindfolded sensory wall that heightens touch. But my absolute favorite was Sloomoo Falls, where you don ponchos (and skirts for taller folks) and step under a cascading "waterfall" of slime. As a Gen X'er who grew up glued to Nickelodeon shows like You Can't Do That on Television, getting slimed brought back waves of 80s nostalgia. It's guaranteed to put a smile on your face, though it is an add-on fee.

The experience wraps up by funneling you through a well-stocked gift shop brimming with slime kits, Slime Life products, merch, and sensory toys—perfect for holiday gifts if you're slime-obsessed. Reviews from other visitors echo our take: It's fun and engaging, with friendly staff who keep things clean and encourage creativity, even in a gooey environment. Families with kids aged 5-12 seem to love it most, though my daughter and I (spanning preschooler to Gen X) both gave it a thumbs up.

Ticket prices start at $27.99 and vary by date and time—check the official site for availability, as sensory-friendly hours are offered for a calmer vibe. Budget 60-90 minutes for the experience. All in all, this is a delightful, family-friendly escape: Get off your phone, dive into the slime, and embrace the mess. If you're in LA before December 21, it's a must for anyone craving tactile fun with a side of nostalgia.
