Leading up to FRANKENSTEIN, we’ll ring in Halloween with a week-long program of horror classics curated by del Toro himself. Join us at the Los Feliz 3 for a selection of frightening tales of all manner of monsters: ghosts, grudges, giant mollusks and a virus that spreads through the English language.

SAW The Musical hilariously captures the events of the first movie parodying the Saw that started it all following from where Lawrence Gordon and Adam Stanheight find each other for the first time in the bathroom trap. Will they follow ''the rules'' as they discover each other's secrets? Will they escape the game in time and saw right through? A love story with fluidity (and lots more fluids), 'SAW The Musical: The Unauthorized Parody of Saw' is Little Shop of Horrors meets Avenue Q, pushing the boundary on sexuality and how to love.

Made in L.A. 2025 is the seventh iteration of the Hammer’s signature biennial exhibition that showcases artists practicing throughout the greater Los Angeles area. The 28 participants in the exhibition present work not only made in the city but also grounded in its complex and unfolding terrain. Neither myth nor monolith, Los Angeles is many things to many people, and its dissonance is perhaps its most distinguishing feature. The works presented in this year’s biennial include film, painting, theater, choreography, photography, sculpture, sound, and video. Attitude draws them together: Each engages with this city in ways alternately literal, formal, material, and metaphoric. Conceived or made in Los Angeles, they are of this city and nowhere else.

Drawing is a skill, gained like any other through study and practice. Combining the movement of the hand with the dedication of the mind, drawing was considered the foundation of the arts of painting, sculpture, and architecture since the Renaissance. Proficiency in drawing was critical for exploring, inventing, and communicating ideas visually, but how was this foundational ability actually learned? This exhibition explores artistic training and the mastery of drawing in Europe from about 1550 to 1850.

Anime Pasadena 2025 Nov 8-9

Pasadena Convention Center
300 E Green St,, Pasadena, CA 91101
$41.64 and up

Of course, a closer anime convention would be in town, making your future weekend plans a tough pick. I gotta say though, you can't go wrong with Anime Pasadena as the same folks pull of a fine show all the way out in Riverside. This is a very fan-based con, but they still have quite a few panels and signings and where the once great DCon took place. The ease of being in downtown Pasadena really helps as you're not far from relatively cheaper parking and places to eat outside of the convention.

Anime Expo Chibi Nov 8-9

Nov 8-9
Ontario Convention Center
$25-$33

Anime Expo Chibi is back and a perfect gathering before Thanksgiving and X-Mas for any anime fan. Perfect place to get gifts for friends and yourself. And, make friends to give such gifts.

This smaller, more affordable AX really got to us with one of the best Artist Alley's we've ever been to. It keeps expanding every year and after looking at the guide, we're impressed how much they've added this year. Definitely worth the drive. And, if you can grab your pass from one of the stores above.

Just a reminder, parking sucks, just got to the airport parking lot and take a shuttle. Food...be very careful and look how there cooking it and know they're gonna be charging you more. Other than that a easy to move through expo and a much more reasonable cost.

Kinokuniya Sort Of Back In Little Tokyo With Second Pop-Up Location

Kinokuniya
232 East 2nd St Suite C
Los Angeles, CA 90012
Hours: 11am -8pm (daily)
Phone: (213) 687-4481

The Kinokuniya Japanese bookstore is back in Little Tokyo as a pop-up. You can now get magazines at the Little Tokyo location, but if you want more you got to head to the other pop-up at The Bloc.

"While the location at The Bloc offers English books, stationery, and collectibles, this new location stocks manga, magazines, and novels in Japanese!"- Kino's Insta

We're so unhappy with this mess and know just as much as you do. Talking with a store employee a while ago, we thought they'd have a permanent location back in Little Tokyo by now. Why Kinokuniya had to move from Weller's Court, where it had been for decades, can only be assumed to be an increase in rent. But,  Kinokuniya hasn't given any info as to why it left. If you have anything on that be sure to email us, thingstodoinla1 (@) gmail.com, you've gotta change it back to a regular email if your serious about sharing info.

On a nicer note, it's much easier for you to grab those two English edition issues of Popeye and Brutus we talked about.

I've only skimmed through them digitally, but their pretty great for anyone wanting to visit.
