Sundace Sunset Cinema Opens End of August

The grand opening of Sundance Sunset Cinema is Friday, August 31st, 2012. If you've been waiting to catch a movie at the refurbished theater your long wait is at an end. Though I still hate the parking lot as it's privately owned. It's so bad former employees of the Laemmle's had to drive out when their time would expire and back in.

Back to the opening, the theater sounds like a modern hipsters paradise to go see independent cinema. Be sure to expect special events and maybe some premieres as the venue is so close to Hollywood. It's seems like the seating will be competitive to Arclight standards, no idea on pricing right now or if you choose seats ahead of time.

I'll remind you about this opening as it approaches.

Below are snippets from the press release with more details.

Sundance Cinemas will host three pre-opening celebration events, benefiting local non-profit organizations:
Monday, August 27th: A Celebration of Film: Sundance Institute Tuesday, August 28th: Filmmakers and the Community: Outfest
Wednesday, August 29th: Sand Rocks & Sea: Heal The Bay A Night To Benefit Rivers, Beaches & Oceans With a special presentation of Jamie Redford's new documentary 'Watershed: Exploring A New Water Ethic For The New West'. Produced by The Redford Center with filmmakers in person.

Sundance Cinema’s remodel of the former Sunset 5 theater at Sunset and Crescent Heights Blvd is finally finished. The new decor is pure Sundance: rustic, elegant and comfortable. Sundance Cinemas took the original theatre down to the studs, and have put in the latest digital presentation systems, all reserved stadium seating with plush rockers and tablettes, and rebuilt the lobby to include a Bistro serving classic movie treats, quick and easy snacks and a bar serving beer and wine which may be brought into the theatre during +21 shows. In addition, the experience has been expanded to include an upstairs lounge filled with comfortable Sundance Catalog furniture, and the patio has been annexed as a new outdoor lobby where patrons are invited to chat, drink and eat before or after the show. Programming will specialize in American Independent and foreign language titles.
