Wonder Man Is So LA

 

The New Marvel Spotlight series Wonder Man was just released with all eight episodes on Disney+. The new series is more the struggle of an actor in Hollywood/ LA than super hero show. We really liked it, even for the lack of superheroing. It's also hard to believe the lead is the same guy who played Black Manta for DC.

What we really liked was a pretty realistic look at LA and various famous places around town. Every episode might be a spot you've been like the Eagle Theatre better known as Vidiots right now or might double-take like an airport lobby that unmistakably was the LA Convention Center for anyone whose walked it's halls.

So watching it, if an LA native or transplant, adds another layer. 

Also, really made us hanker for some chamoy peach rings.

Two episodes even bear the names of SoCal surrounding cities known for being a bit further out there with Paicoma and Yucca Valley, close to Joshua Tree.

So, give the show a shot, just don't expect any changes to the Marvel Universe. 

 

Oh, and if you want more on Doorman, he sort of has his own episode, Marvel has his comic story condensed and a new digital comic for you.

National Shutdown Means Some Free Screenings

The National Shutdown this Friday has many businesses closed up in protest of ICE and it's terrible mishandling of everything, but to be exact what's happened in Minneapolis. LA Taco and Variety has the news on free screenings at both Vidiots and The American Cinematheque, which will offer free admission to Something Wild at the Aero in Santa Monica and “two films at the Los Feliz 3.

Is today also an f u to the Melania movie coming out today in theaters? Oh, yeah. I say add a fart track as an option to it and people will love it.

Hype: DCon Pasadena & Eros @ The New Bev

DCon is back? Well, back in Pasadena. Didn't expect this news. But DCon is headed home to where it sort of started, I think it started way smaller...anyway, it's back to where it called home for years, Pasadena. This June it's back at the Pasadena Convention Center! We can't wait. Reasonable parking prices, plenty of places to eat and shop. Just a nice area nearby.

Oh LA and Anaheim Convention Center we hate you. More so the lack of anything convenient nearby.

Of note, this is an expanded part of DCon, they're still having a bigger one in Vegas, but we get a smaller Summer bound one this year.

 

 

And, The New Bev is getting sexy for Valentine's Day...perhaps too sexy, i-it's straight up horny for a month. February see The New Bev showing off soft-core porn with the EROS label being flaunted like the nudity they're going to show. Watch those hands Pee-Wee.

Scary Feb: The Queen Mary's Dark Harbor Presents: Dark Masquerade & Resident Evil Raccoon City Cinema

Woah, boys and ghouls, let's see what we have happening this Feb. Before you ask about, you'd think I'd be all in for 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple and Return to Silent Hill, but the reviews for the latter isn't great. As of writing this, Return to Silent Hill has a 16% on Rotten Tomatoes and 28 flopped it's opening weekend. Though, it's Rotten Tomatoes is actually quite good. Forbes has ‘Return To Silent Hill’ Is The Worst-Reviewed Video Game Movie In 19 Years. Ooof, I hope it isn't that bad, because I really wanted to see the return of director  Christophe Gans. And, he's been through a lot.

On to Feb, next month has some fun plans and we hope these two are just the start.

Start Feb 6 at Alamo Drafthouse locations you can watch a "free" horror movie as long as you buy a special Resident Evil inspired meal. This is all for the upcoming release of Resident Evil Requiem (Feb 27). Remember Sony owns the theater so it makes sense game coming out on their system might have special screenings. Here's the latest episode of Fallout Fake Talk Show, an amazing bizarre segment in the vein of The Eric Andre Show. You can watch new episodes on YouTube or Amazon Prime under Extras for Fallout.

Piecing it together, it looks like it was all shot in one day. Some sort of press day when all the actors were together. So the wonderful set might already be destroyed.

It's so hard to not think of it as just, well F U, we've got Amazon money to throw around and can do anything we want. It's just a fun extra that I frankly find funnier than the actual show.

Ball x Pit most have sold well or the people behind it aren't filled with an unabashed greed. 

 

Touched by a Demon #1 is out now and it's one you should pick-up or wait for it to be collected.

The way Bifrons and Zuzu seem so utterly happy to help people with no real understanding o twhat thir supposed to do  is pure comedic bliss.

Made in L.A. 2025 is the seventh iteration of the Hammer’s signature biennial exhibition that showcases artists practicing throughout the greater Los Angeles area. The 28 participants in the exhibition present work not only made in the city but also grounded in its complex and unfolding terrain. Neither myth nor monolith, Los Angeles is many things to many people, and its dissonance is perhaps its most distinguishing feature. The works presented in this year’s biennial include film, painting, theater, choreography, photography, sculpture, sound, and video. Attitude draws them together: Each engages with this city in ways alternately literal, formal, material, and metaphoric. Conceived or made in Los Angeles, they are of this city and nowhere else.
