Downtown Los Angeles' Corey Helford Gallery (CHG) is proud to announce their next major group show I Don’t Wanna Be, I Am ─ an international touring group exhibition exploring the concept of identity by bringing together a selection of artworks from a roster of artists including world-renowned Spanish painter and sculptor Okuda San Miguel, Argentinian artists Elian Chali and Franco Fasoli, as well as Spanish artists Martí Sawe, Misterpiro, Nano4814, Sabek, Sixe Paredes, and Spok Brillor.
In partnership with the LA Phil’s Youth Orchestra Los Angeles (YOLA), the opening weekend highlights arts and culture in the city of Inglewood. City Hall’s front lawn, Grevillea Art Park, and the Beckmen YOLA Center host interactive workshops and performances for all ages with local musicians, local artisans and visual artists. Plus, enjoy an immersive digital experience of Getty collections, giveaways, photo booths, and food vendors.

Japanese food is admired worldwide for its visual appeal, with ingredients arranged and combined so artistically that a meal might be a feast for the eyes as much as the mouth. Japan is also famous for its plastic food samples, or “sampuru,” – replicas that are displayed in restaurant windows to show the food served inside and entice passersby. Iwasaki Mokei is one of the best-known food replica companies, based in Gujo Hachiman in Gifu prefecture. Since 1955, the company has been producing replicas that are designed not to simply copy the food but to convey its deliciousness too.
Mr. Seigo Kozakai, the CEO of Iwasaki Mokei will give a presentation with slides about the art and business of food replicas, the importance of this industry in Japanese culinary culture, and the future role of his company in promoting Japanese food in Japan and beyond.

Borrowing its name from the phrase cultural historian Mike Davis used to describe how Los Angeles is more sinister, intense, and foreboding than the city’s boosters care to admit, Sunshine and Noir: 1980s L.A. Horror Marathon takes a deep dive into the L.A.-based horror films that terrorized a generation and continue to define its fears. Curated by Wynter Mitchell-Rohrbaugh and Cinematic Void at the American Cinematheque, the marathon foregrounds the contributions of women and people of color, while also illuminating the ways in which horror films played out 1980s L.A.’s preoccupation with ambition, health, and wealth. Featuring a combination of film screenings and guest artist panels, Sunshine to Noir promises a chilling descent into the City of Angels’ dark side and a nostalgia trip of epic proportions for those whose first encounters with horror took place on VHS.
