 In addition to the Veterans Day screening of Good Morning, Vietnam, the Hollywood Legion Theater Drive-in has a variety of classic Hollywood films on tap for November. Nestled in the Hollywood Hills, the drive-in offers a cozy and intimate outdoor cinema experience 7 days a week.

Dana Point Harbor Partners is spreading seasonal cheer with the annual holiday light display set to illuminate the Harbor beginning November 11. Each night throughout the holiday season, the Harbor’s magnificent light display will illuminate the evening sky for guests of all ages to enjoy. Themed light exhibits throughout the Harbor will include Candy Cane Lane, and the popular “Merry Kiss Me” arch. New this year, Dana Point Harbor Partners have added light displays to the island to encourage visitors to explore all areas of the Harbor and avoid large crowds.

Dana Point Harbor’s 46th Annual Boat Parade of Lights will take place on December 4, 5, 11 and 12. Dana Point boaters will be decorating their vessels to the theme of “Fiesta Holiday.”

First up though, the OG classic BACK TO THE FUTURE. This was the movie that launched Robert Zemeckis’ directing career proper the way that JAWS launched Spielberg. Never again would Zemeckis have to worry about a job. Co-written with Bob Gale, BACK TO THE FUTURE follows rock n roll loving high school teen Marty McFly whose friendship with local town weirdo and inventor Doc Brown (a hilarious Christopher Lloyd) leads him to accidentally pilot a time traveling car to 1955, just a few weeks before his parents would fall in love and marry.

 

 RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK and the first three Indiana Jones movies are about as good as popcorn cinema can get. RAIDERS, which follows 1930’s roguishly charming archeologist Indiana Jones on his globe trotting adventure to keep the Nazis from getting their hands on the biblically powerful Ark of the Covenant, may be that most illusive of films: the perfect movie.

 

Often cited as one of the least predictable stories you’d ever think would make a family animated classic: Remy, a French rat who loves cooking, teams up with a hapless garbage boy named Linguini to transform the kitchen of a Parisian restaurant into the producer of the most delicious dishes ever.

Screen films at home and take a vicarious journey to some of the darker corners of the globe, including neon-streaked alleys of Japanese yakuza thrillers, the stylish Parisian underworld, Italian palazzos hiding crimes of every social strata, a Kafkaesque Prague as envisioned by the Czech New Wave — even a rare serial killer film set in Nazi Germany and made by Hollywood's finest director of film noir, Robert Siodmak. Tour guides include some of the world's most revered filmmakers: Michelangelo Antonioni, Andzrej Wajda, Julien Duvivier, Jean-Pierre Melville, Jirí Weiss and Masahiro Shinoda. Look for a new restoration recently completed by the Film Noir Foundation, the Argentine thriller THE BLACK VAMPIRE [EL VAMPIRO NEGRO] from 1953.

Opening Reception with the Artists:

Tapas showcases a collection of small works from 60 new contemporary artists and marks the curatorial debut of our long time gallery director Ken Flewellyn. We’re excited to give Ken this opportunity and are thrilled with the collection of works he has helped to bring together. All the works in this special exhibition are 8 x 8 inches (20 x 20 cm) or smaller in size. Many of the participating artists have also contributed more than one piece. Much like the show’s namesake, these works may be small in size, but they still pack a powerful punch. 

We are excited to welcome back Matthew Grabelsky for his fifth solo exhibition with our gallery. Animal will feature the largest collection of new oil paintings to date by Los Angeles-based artist Matthew Grabelsky. His works combine a hyperrealistic painting technique with a surreal penchant for unlikely juxtapositions. Raised in New York City, Grabelsky uses its subway’s underground world as the setting for his unlikely pairings.

 Florescentia is Gustavo Rimada’s debut solo show at the gallery and will feature seven vividly colored and highly detailed acrylic paintings.

Featuring new 12” x 12” works from artists spanning across the globe, displayed throughout the Main Gallery. To premiere the show, CHG will be hosting a virtual opening 

Smaller, more affordable new works by artists that everyone loves was the inciting idea behind CHG’s popular annual show when it launched in 2013. Since then, the exhibition has been met with huge crowds and enthusiasm. The show is back for its seventh installment, ACSK VII, and is bigger than ever, featuring the top artists in the New Contemporary art scene.

Two solo shows featuring new works from Japanese mythological surrealist painter Chie Yoshii, entitled Myth, in Gallery 2 and from Canadian illustrator and designer Bennett Slater, entitled Homemade Easy, in Gallery 3. Both shows mark each artist’s second solo at the gallery, and CHG plans to celebrate their debut with a virtual opening

In spite of the unusual presentation, attendees can expect many of the traditions they’ve come to love. Every year, DesignerCon organizes events and aesthetics around an important pop-culture theme, and 2020 is no different. For this edition of DCON, the expo celebrates the 35th anniversary of Back to the Future—a franchise more timely than ever—and will be honoring the iconic films with a fan art show, curated by Carmen “Jane Dope” Acosta. Additionally DKE Toys is curating 30+ artists in a line of
limited-edition hand-made Back To The Future action figures. The tribute exhibition will be held at Art Share LA, a non-profit arts organization in DTLA, and livestreamed to DCON attendees. Secret Walls
will return with their signature live illustration battles, but this time with a virtual makeover.
