Weekly What To Do: Nisei Week Lasts But Only Two Weeks

We couldn't wait for the Weekly What To Do for this one. We've got a dang SPAM® Musubi Mobile headed around town to Ralph's Supermarkets. We mean, how is this...it's too funny. The SPAM® Musubi Mobile rolls into town to celebrate National SPAM® Musubi Day on August 8th. Not sure, how that became a holiday, but sure.

Little Tokyo

Perhaps it needs to be changed to Nisei weeks as it really lasts that long. This Little Tokyo festival is a great way to end the Summer. Very much as what you might have seen in anime and manga it's a celebration in the vein of Japanese culture. This first weekend you get the annual parade to enjoy and next weekend is the annual festival, the Plaza Festival. There's other events throughout the weeks that might catch your eye, but those two are the biggest and the most fun.

*It's gonna be a little weird without Kinokuniya which hopefully opens up back soon in a new location in Little Tokyo.

’SMOL 2.0’ sees us keeping our dear Shawn’s vision alive by making ’SMOL’ an annual showcase. We’ve always been a champion of starting your collection out with smaller works and all of us here at the gallery still actively collect smaller pieces. I like to think that Shawn is looking down smiling and is proud of our family as we march into the unknown that is the future ahead, without our gallery mom here to guide us.

‘SMOL’ showcase works sized 12×16 inches and under. We want to give young collectors and those on a budget the chance to get something nice for themselves, as well as encouraging all to collect smaller works as previously shared. They bring so much joy.

Celebrate with vampires, werewolves, and two of the coolest, creepiest cult classics ever made. Some nights were made for monsters.

Here's a few films we excited for coming out this weekend.

Zach Cregger’s (Barbarian) latest horror film looks awfully messed-up and it's out this weekend, go see Weapons.

Strange Harvest is the newest film from Stuart Ortiz (Grave Encounters) and it's set not too far from us in San Bernardino. It looks like it's a tight found footage film. Way better than the trash that Amazon served up with War of the Worlds. They sat on that turd since 2020.
