Nippets: A Hidden Object Game Review: Stop Picking On Me!

 By Jonathan Bilski

A short, but sweet, hidden object, point-and-click ready for you to look down upon tiny people and
pick on them. Not...essentially in a bad way. Welcome to Nippets, where your nipping at everything to see if it's what your looking for. Sure, they're hints, but why not prod everything with your cursor and mouse? Your looking down and four different seasons with a large crowd of people and instead of trying to destroy their lives or build up defenses for invading hordes your just trying to find stuff. The clicks come fast at first, but then, then it gets harder to process what's hidden. You're a trickster, Nippets!

Where's Waldo?
and many other childhood books have prepared you for this. A simple game of finding hidden objects. You do so with the two buttons on your mouse, moving the screening and clicking on it. You've got to find the right items that are missing, sometimes in the correct order. Sometimes in multiples. In cute little puzzles, while sort of just clicking on people throughout 4 levels representing the four seasons. Not the hotel, the actual four seasons. Adding some theme, so each area looks different and feels different. And, they do they all have a different look.

And, plopping in, the look, does look straight out of a child's book of finding object's. It's quaint and it makes it easy enough to spot something, while adding a bit of challenge. Not as bad if it was realistic or PS2 graphics.

There's an obvious love of cats from the developers and a few jokes here and there, didn't expect to see a CloverPit reference. In fact, there's a lot of jokes, going on, to keep you interested. Why is the Dad so afraid of that snow man?

Though at some point I think the game asks a little too much and finding some objects or puzzles to find them can become so hard the fun runs out. I'm not sure, but sometimes it's just too hard to know what the game is asking even with its hints. Maybe, it needed to be play-tested a little bit more, who knows? I got frustrated though and that's not what the games trying to do.

For a low price and how short the game is, it's just a nice nip in your wallet. Nippets totally stole my attention as I petted or poked every cat I found and tried to find every little flag, clam shell or gnome. It can be addictive trying to get 100% per level. Try picking it up.

Nippets is out now on Steam and Itchi.io for $12.99
