Anime
Expo Chibi is back and a perfect gathering before Thanksgiving and
X-Mas for any anime fan. Perfect place to get gifts for friends and
yourself. And, make friends to give such gifts.
This year’s lineup will feature over 60 industry guests, voice actors, and talents, including Mika Akitaka, renowned mechanical designer and illustrator known for his work on the Mobile Suit Gundam series, and Chiitan, the beloved (and chaotic) fairy otter mascot making surprise appearances throughout the weekend. Additional guests include SungWon Cho, also known as ProZD, and voice of Abby Saja in KPop Demon Hunter, along with Alan Lee, voice of Mystery Saja."

Of
course, a closer anime convention would be in town, making your future
weekend plans a tough pick. I gotta say though, you can't go wrong with
Anime Pasadena as the same folks pull of a fine show all the way out in
Riverside. This is a very fan-based con, but they still have quite a few
panels and signings and where the once great DCon took place. The ease
of being in downtown Pasadena really helps as you're not far from
relatively cheaper parking and places to eat outside of the convention.

The summer tourist season of scenic Amity Island is ruined once more, as yet another great white shark claims its peaceful waters for a feeding ground in this lively sequel to director Steven Spielberg’s 1975 classic. Roy Scheider, Lorraine Gary, and Murray Hamilton returned to their roles from Jaws as, respectively, beleaguered police Chief Brody, his loving wife Ellen, and the mayor who always chooses tourist dollars over public safety. For the film’s music, John Williams reprised the classic shark theme from his Oscar-winning Jaws score but composed a wealth of new musical material, including a lively theme for the boating scenes.

Made in L.A. 2025 is the seventh iteration of the Hammer’s signature biennial exhibition that showcases artists practicing throughout the greater Los Angeles area. The 28 participants in the exhibition present work not only made in the city but also grounded in its complex and unfolding terrain. Neither myth nor monolith, Los Angeles is many things to many people, and its dissonance is perhaps its most distinguishing feature. The works presented in this year’s biennial include film, painting, theater, choreography, photography, sculpture, sound, and video. Attitude draws them together: Each engages with this city in ways alternately literal, formal, material, and metaphoric. Conceived or made in Los Angeles, they are of this city and nowhere else.

Drawing
is a skill, gained like any other through study and practice. Combining
the movement of the hand with the dedication of the mind, drawing was
considered the foundation of the arts of painting, sculpture, and
architecture since the Renaissance. Proficiency in drawing was critical
for exploring, inventing, and communicating ideas visually, but how was
this foundational ability actually learned? This exhibition explores
artistic training and the mastery of drawing in Europe from about 1550
to 1850.
