Cinespia Has Real Plans This Summer, Cinema Week Not So Much

Cinespia has a lot of movies planned for it's 20th season starting this July. We're warning you now to look at their schedule, because a whole lot is gonna sell out. And, they have some showings still this June.

July Schedule:

Saturday July 3rd - Dazed and Confused followed by Fireworks. Celebrate the highs of high school and the rockin’ pleasures of the 1970s with a motley crew on their final day of school. The kids are mostly alright in Richard Linklater’s love letter to teenage life showcases a group of seniors on the fringe as a late night outdoor party brings everyone together. The free photo booth is back and better than ever, and DJ sets continue the party after the film. Stick around after the film for a panorama of firework magic in honor of the holiday weekend!

Sunday, July 4th - Dirty Dancing followed by Fireworks. Have the time of your life at a special Fourth of July Spectacular! Daddy’s girl Baby (Jennifer Grey) catches a glimpse of bad boy dancer Johnny Castle (Patrick Swayze) practicing his moves in a Catskills resort. When Johnny loses his partner for a forthcoming competition, can Baby go from spaghetti arms to Johnny’s partner in dance and love? Nobody puts Baby in the corner! Put on your dancing shoes for our free themed photobooth. After the film sit back as a firework spectacle illuminates the Hollywood Forever Cemetery.

Saturday, July 10th - Silence of the Lambs. Jodie Foster shines as Agent Starling, the smart but young trainee that must stop a serial killer before he strikes again. Anthony Hopkins’ famous role as the brilliant psychotic criminal Hannibal Lector can terrify even the most jaded horror fan, but it’s Jodie’s sensitive performance that steals the show. A roller coaster that plunges guests into the depths of fear, and a masterpiece of filmmaking that won 5 Academy Awards for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress and Best Screenplay. See it in the cemetery if you dare! DJ Spins before and after the screening.

Saturday, July 17th - The Addams Family. Bring the family and hang out with the creepiest and kookiest clan of the silver screen, The Addams Family! A fantastic all star cast made up of none other than Raul Julia, Anjelica Huston, Christina Ricci and Christopher Lloyd, make for genuinely great (and demented) comedy. The elaborate big budget sets and zany camera moves make this one of the most strange, inventive and hilarious comedies of the 90s. Join us for this special picnic and screening under the stars! A themed photo booth will be open for your own ghoulish family portraits.

Saturday, July 24th - Pulp Fiction.  Widely regarded as Tarantino's masterpiece, with particular praise for its screenwriting. The self-reflexivity, unconventional structure, and extensive homage and pastiche have led critics to describe it as a touchstone of postmodern film.  Enjoy this film under the stars while enjoying a themed photobooth and fun tunes from your favorite DJ’s ahead of the screening.

Saturday, July 31st - The Wizard of Oz. Celebrate the life of Judy Garland at the location of her resting place at Hollywood Forever Cemetery. Starring the incomparable Judy Garland in her greatest role, The Wizard of Oz is the musical that embodies everything there is to love about classic Hollywood: fantasy, song, beautiful sets and a sixteen year old starlet who took motion pictures by storm! Dorothy and Toto are transported by a cyclone from an ordinary Kansas life to a weird and wonderful kingdom where a wizard rules the land.

Before July, we have Cinema Week. You might ask? What the Heck is that? See, that's the problem.

Well, the companies behind our cinemas want people to enjoy going out to theaters again so they concocted a week of special screenings, merch and deals at your local one. The problem, as of June 14th, as this is being written is they haven't really announced any of those special screenings, merch and deals. It's happening next week June 22nd-27th The website for it, really has no info either.

Other than a Deadline article on it back in April, we're unsure if there's been any other press or details given by theaters.

If theaters want moviegoers back in seats they may want to actually do what they said they were. We're enticed by the idea of early movie screenings, special collectibles or just some slashed prices. As of right now though, there's nothing of that to report and that's not a great way to attract customers back.

We'll report on Cinema Week, if it actually happens next week. If it doesn't, remember to pay if forward to your theaters, by getting a streaming service
