Weekly What To Do: Wonka, Drive-Ins and Monster Fights

This week is all kinds of virtual and drive-in theaters as things aren't exactly normal yet.

The mess that is Monster Hunter finally comes out to be made fun of online. From the exact same people who kept making Resident Evil movies might be a stillborn movie franchise. After some mild racism in China pulled it from theaters, it waited until after Christmas to come out right in time for no major holiday. Best to watch this one with friends online and laugh at the millions wasted.

Movement artist and scholar Mlondi Zondi joins Made in L.A. 2020 artist Ligia Lewis in conversation, followed by a screening of Lewis’s dance performance deader than dead (2020). Conceived, choreographed, and directed by Lewis for Made in L.A., deader than dead was originally intended to be a live performance held within the Hammer’s galleries but was postponed due to the pandemic. The film not only documents a performance of the piece, it represents the potential of a live performance to come. Q&A follows the screening.
