Weekly What To Do: My Friends, Kamen Rider Void The Cow

*7-Eleven cancels Free Slurpee Day

Co-curated by designer and artist Onch
July 11 – August 15, 2020

Regarding this special “Sweet 16” group exhibition, Onch shares: “This show has a very special place in my heart. Not only does it mark the coming of age for my career, I also get to celebrate with some incredibly talented artists and friends who have inspired me over the years. Each amazing artist will create a one-of-a-kind artwork inspired by some of my classic pieces. I am beyond humbled by and grateful for each of their contributions. Collectively, these new works will showcase a retrospective of how my wearable art has evolved from being handmade in my kitchen to what it is today.”

Silence and Affirmation
July 11 – August 15, 2020

Sparkling and sweet, Shimoda’s work is at once enchanting and disarming, portraying a world where cuteness and horror coexist. Her portraits of children are full of countless possibilities. She describes them as "where fantasy meets with reality, past meets future, life meets death and a world that is yet to be reborn." Not only do eyes communicate with each character’s personality, but they are also a reflection of the artist's own feelings and ideas.

A Journey
July 11 – August 15, 2020

Yu's newest series "A Journey" is a fantasy world centered around the artist's own rumination of childhood and a celebration of growth. She shares, “The world was smaller and brighter when I was younger, and I want to capture that with my art. As a teenager, my biggest challenge in life was not knowing who I was or who I wanted to be.

SMC Netflix Party of Edgar Wright's SCOTT PILGRIM VS THE WORLD
Fri, July 10, 7:30 PM – 9:30 PM
Fri, July 10,  10:00 PM – 11:30 PM
Sat, July 11, 8:00 PM – 10:30 PM

First up is Edgar Wright’s (now) beloved comic adaptation Scott Pilgrim Vs The World. It uses music, video game, and comic book language to tell the story of self-absorbed bass guitarist Scott Pilgrim who falls for Amazon delivery worker Ramona Flowers but learns in order to date her he must first conquer her six evil ex boyfriends.

Next up, we look at Jeremy Saulnier’s break-out feature film Blue Ruin which follows the clumsy, comic, yet simultaneously graphically violent revenge story of Dwight who is trying to exact retribution on the Cleland family for a feud that nobody can completely explain.

Our final movie of this series is Paul Thomas Anderson’s The Master. While receiving pretty near universal critical acclaim when it came out, it nevertheless proved to be a more mysterious and elusive follow up than many expected to Anderson’s previous cinema-ground shaking movie There Will Be Blood.

Officially kicks off at 10am PT on Saturday, July 11

An ongoing series of one-of-a-kind panels, screenings, and unique digital events to bring the comic convention experience to the living rooms and viewing devices of fans everywhere.

A taciturn loner and skilled cook (John Magaro) has traveled West and joined a group of fur trappers in 19th-century Oregon. He finds a kindred spirit in a Chinese immigrant (Orion Lee) and soon the two collaborate on a successful business - although its longevity is reliant upon the clandestine participation of a wealthy landowner’s prized milking cow.
