Ice Cream Sunday, Ice Cream Day LA July 16

One of my friends owes me ice cream as I had to write affidavit that he actually loves his wife cuz she's a foreigner. I'm cashing in this ice cream request this Sunday. And it's a good day to as it's National Ice Cream Day. Yes, coming from President Reagan, of all people, came the creation of Ice Cream Day. Meant to be a one-off event, the ice cream makers of America have kept it going. Technically, July is National Ice Cream Month.

As it's Ice Cream Day were going over some of our favorite shops and special events in celebration of our frozen friend.

Shops
10am-9pm Sun
1526 Mission St, South Pasadena, CA 91030

Fair Oaks Pharmacy is at the top for it's old school style. It feels like an ice cream parlor you've seen in movies. It doesn't hurt that they have massive portions and the have all the special ice cream dishes for you to down.
Oh, let's not forget the have the Ice Cream Eating Challenge. They call it the Kitchen Sink! If you and a friend, dos, can finish the Kitchen Sink, eight scoops of ice cream with cookies, bananas, brownies, and hot fudge and caramel in under thirty you win. Win what? Not paying the $35 for the ice cream, t-shirts saying you won the challenge and your pictures forever on the wall of fame.
It's also a candy store and sells some old-timey toys.

the kitchen sink
For one hundred years the prophecy foretold of a pharmacy ... well, it is one hundred years old and still serves quite yummy ice cream. They even have an ice cream challenge, can you finish in time? This "pharmacy" is more of a restaurant with a kitschy gift shop for tourists. What this place has is a long list of desserts that had everyone gorging on around us as we only got a lousy soda drink. If you're going here, don't go for the soup of the day or a burger, you and your friends are going for delectable desserts. Here's the dessert menu, peruse and then be ready to choose. Maybe even try the ice cream challenge!

With a fun atmosphere and mouth-watering desserts head over for one of those times when you forget diets exists or being healthy is a thing. Healthy, I'll be healthy after this Banana Blitz

Little Damage
12pm-11pm All Week
700 S Spring St
Los Angeles, CA 90014
At the time we didn't know the cone was charcoal based, it gave it a unique taste and now it didn't taste awful. We know, charcoal? It's weird, but it works.

With a line around the corner... shop we had to try Little Damage this weekend. Though it was only serving two flavors: Cinnamon Chocolate Horchata and Birthday Cake Vanilla, people were waiting for a solid 30-40 minutes to show off the ice cream. The soft serve doesn't just taste good, but looks stunning. The eye-catching ice cream has everyone who buys it taking a picture.

The flavors change often, but the store doesn't seem to get any bigger. If this tiny shop is busy, expect to wait for a while, but it's worth it on a warm day in LA for the looks and the taste.
12:00 pm - 10:00 pm
621 S Western Ave
Ste 208-A
We just found out the have cones in the shape of Taiyaki, those red bean or chocolate filled  fish shaped treats. The flavors look horrible like black sesame and ube, but hey, they have milk flavor? Blech, matcha. What's wrong with chocolate or vanilla?

Churro Borough
12:00 pm - 11:00 pm
1726 N Vermont Ave
Los Angeles, CA 90027

The perfect ratio of hot to cold. The delicious taste of warm churro and ice cream, has anything ever tasted so sweet? Churro Borough, if you've never gone, you've go to get "The Original" Churro Ice Cream Sandwich. Mmmm, Ice Cream between to warm churro discs. If you have been, then you know, everything on the menu mixes well together and they have flavors worth mentioning like  Black Forest Cheesecake Sherbert and Horchata Sherbe.

Cream
Multiple Locations

Cream makes the list for simply having ice cream tacos. The Cream Taco with its free flavors and two toppings is too tasty. They do have a rather large list of flavors and options and can even accommodate vegans and people who just don't like gluten.

For us though, it's the ice cream taco.

McConnell’s Fine Ice Creams
Multiple Locations

This place just wins us over with the classic look of an ice cream shop and delicious flavors. Now they know how to make ice cream, they've been doing it since 1949. What you get when you get a cone or a cup is an instant gratification upon the ice cream touches your tongue. Now they don't stay old school they'll make special limited flavors for you to try, so get'em while they're cold.
