Iam8bit 10th Anniversary Show Final Look

TTDILA picked up our pieces from Iam8bit 10th Anniversary Show and had a final look. We came so early for the opening show we missed the lovable Gabe Swarr (in person). We also missed the fantasy bottles of Jude Buffum.

Amplitude Waiting Until Christmas, They Never Heard of Christmas In July

Amplitude just set a blew away my summer holiday. The earliest version of the game coming out, on the PS4, won't be out until December and that's only if you paid for early access on Kickstarter. Everyone else won't get the game until January. That's not all, even with the extra time no online multiplayer.

What they are adding is 31 songs, if you paid that high a tier, the main game will be 16 songs. With that and no online multiplayer is "2 more playable environments, unique path topology per song, and more play modes. We are now shipping a solo campaign, solo free play, 2-4 player “free-for-all”, and an all-new team play mode (1v3, 2v2)."-From that latest update.

For a fan of the series and playing a version at E3 I can't understand what the hold-up really is. Unless updating on PSN cost companies extra they should just release the game.

This is why I grew tired with Kickstarter and stopped the Kickstarter LA segment, LA Game Space you there? I'm waiting on multiple items still, including this game. Bee and Puppycat, you wanna finish your season? All of these things should have come out already.

I honestly wish there was a punishment where money is taken away or Kickstarter blemishes you with a big sticker on your Kickstarter that reads, "Failed to produce on time."

Splatoon Updates, We All Play Again

Finally, finally we will have teams with out friends! That's one of the many updates from Splatoon coming out Aug 5.

Straight into what's being updated we have the choice to choose Squad Battle and Private Battle which allows players to finally team up with friends to take down enemies as a team. Those basketball tees and those football helmets can finally be warn together by friends working together to ink the ink out of each other.

Level cap is going to be raised to level 50 (from 20) and you can now reach the rank of S+ (video games have higher rankings than A+).

Two new weapons with 40 new items of apparel to wear. You'll be getting the Slosher, a buck of ink and a gatling gun called the Splatling.

More updates are still set to come after this one on Aug 5.

Sadly, no word if we'll be getting the Ink Girl (anime) costume that Japan is getting. It's squid-diculos if we don't .

We Bare Bears Starts Today

We're so unsure about this one. Clarence was a surprise hit, maybe just their marketing and editing the trailer has been bad? We Bare Bears premieres Monday, July 27, at 6:30 p.m..

From press release:

We Bare Bears is about three brothers trying to fit in and make friends...which can be kind of hard to do when you’re a bear. Grizzly (Eric Edelstein), Panda (Bobby Moynihan) and Ice Bear (Demetri Martin) are fairly savvy about the modern world: they’re masters of the selfie, fans of the food truck, and chasers of Internet fame. Yet, they have a lot to learn about the trendy residents that surround their humble Bay Area cave.  Grizzly, the oldest bear, will lead his younger brothers, Panda and Ice Bear, with endless optimism that will only result in disaster, some of the time.  The Bears’ favorite way to get around town is by #bearstack, where Grizzly stands atop Panda who stands atop Ice Bear who walks them wherever they want to go. Along the way, the Bears are joined by their best human friend Chloe (Charlyne Yi), a fame-flaunting Koala named Nom Nom (Patton Oswalt), and their neighbor Charlie (Jason Lee), a.k.a. Bigfoot. Ellie Kemper will also guest star this season.

Game Hype: Time Crisis 5 Review, weird titles and Royce

Time Crisis 5 and other arcade game reviews

An insane man with a robotic arm, his name, Wild Dog. I look like a surfer who got stuck in a fashion tornado, my partner looks like a male escort from a 90's movie. I'm playing Time Crisis 5 with the new left and right foot pivot pedal system and thanking the Japanese for not understanding or even attempting to understand American culture. Three levels look like 80's Miami with a plot right out of every other video game ever. This game is old-school shooter fun available at Dave & Buster's on Hollywood and Highland.

Three levels, different positions and a boss that won't die will take up a good twenty minutes or more of your time. The story is far-fetched. The villain a complete farce, made-up of other villains.  Whatever story that is taking place has no basis in reality. The only reality is an action movie that let's you work in real time with friend.

You and a buddy are playing at the same time taking out Wild Dog's easy to kill men, robot tank and drones. Flying Drones? All while taking cover from the left or  right. Which isn't a gimmick, if you can master where to be you can taking down enemies before they know where to shoot.

You're not always on the ground. Switch from riding motorcycles to shooting a machine gun from a helicopter. It's Die Hard and every other action movie ever and you're the star.

You're dressed like a hobo found clothes though.

True Mastermind Edition is suppose to update the game later this 2015. New arcade games can be updated now. My partner and I were left with another bad guy to worry about at the end of the game. Guess will have to wait for the update to see what this mysterious swordsman will do.

What did update was Mario Kart Arcade GP DX, Metal Mario and Rosalina can now join you with races with up to four people.

Jurassic Park Arcade, which came out in March, was finally tested. Raw Thrills, maker of the game, have usually been cheap with their licensed titles The game plays like it was made by the Japanese. I have to mention the utterly bizarre take that your suppose to be shooting tranquilizer darts when it's rather obvious those dinosaurs are dead after you shoot them with a machine gun. You can zap and freeze velociraptors with other fun power-ups that make the older Jurassic Park arcade game, well, look like a fossil. Kill some dinosaurs today.

All machines available at Dave & Buster's Hollywood as of writing this.

Weird Titles and event

That Glitch City event I mentioned in early July had some weird games to play. Read about it in LA  Weekly: An Artist Made a Video Game About Her Grandmother — Using Images of Vaginas

Royce's Arcade 1st Anniversary

Royce's Arcade just had it's 1st Anniversary. Congratulations.!They've also promised to do reenact this video if they reach 1,000 like on Facebook.

Doraemon: Fujiko Fujio Tribute Art Show Opening Night Saturday

It's a cat. It's a robot. It's both. It's Doraemon and he's in his own Tribute Art Show. The Doraemon: Fujiko Fujio Tribute Art Show pays tribute to the very depressing if you think about it story of a robotic cat that travels back in time so that it's owner's ascendants don't become huge losers. This was a show designed for kids? Oh, Japan you mask your emotions and only reveal them in cartoons.

New York Gets Fake U.S. Premiere of Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection 'F'

As LA was both the home of the world premiere and the dub premiere of Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection 'F', it's odd that FUNimation is calling the showing of the film in New York this August the U.S. Premiere. Stop claiming premieres you don't have New York, you already get enough, LA won this one.

Here's the press release

DWP Keeps Sucking

Remember how the DWP was caught wasting our money, well they're also in charge of handling their own punishment (so far) and reforms. As you might have thought, little to nothing has changed.

The silliest part is that the two non-profit organizations that have taken 40 million dollars still have no real explained value or explanation of what they do for safety training. Instead of just abolishing them there has been the suggestion of putting them into one worthless non-profit.

DWP nonprofits slow to make reforms called for in city audit

"Board President Mel Levine said “unscrambling the mess” at the nonprofits will take time, but he expects more “tangible” progress in the next sixty days. “I would like to see more changes, I would like to see them quicker, but these are steps in the right direction.”"

Please fire everyone at the top, LA City Council. That's how you reform the LADWP.

Sam Bosma Interview For Fantasy Sports Signing & Solo Exhibition

Sam Bosma is a talented artist that sort of has his first solo show at Nuclues this Saturday for his upcoming revised comic Fantasy Sports! , it's about magic and playing the game. Sam braved the battle of moving his fingers on a keyboard to answer my questions about his upcoming show and a little about himself. Is his boss, Rebecca Sugar, creator of Steven Universe, a monster, find out below.

TTDILA: Sam, it's seems like ages since I read Fantasy Sports, print versions seem to take a long time, what's the difference in this release other than color? Will we know if the main character is a boy or a girl this time, you seemed to have made them androgynous.

Sam Bosa:Yeah, it seems like forever since I wrote and drew the thing. Most of it has been done for two years now, going back to when it was Fantasy Basketball. Besides the color (which is in itself a pretty bit difference), the main addition to this version is the prologue, which introduces the Order of Mages, where Wiz-Kid and Mean Mug work. There's some back and forth there to set up the relationship between the two, though it's not exhaustive and there's still a lot more to reveal as the series moves forward.

As for the second part, Wiz-Kid is a girl, though I haven't really done anything to make her less androgynous.

Where does your mind go, Sam? I mean does it venture to other worlds based on video games and novels you've read?

It mostly wanders to stories. A big chunk of my work now is comics, and I'm actively trying to become a better writer. So yeah, I think a lot about story structure and ways to deliver story both visually and through dialogue. I do read a lot, and play games when I can, and that definitely filters over to my work. I really like stories that hold elements of the world close to the vest, and reveal things slowly and deliberately. I'm a big fan of Ursula K. Le Guin's Earthsea Cycle, and the Dark Souls games for those reasons.

How powerful is you D&D character?

Ahh, I don't have an active one right now! Mean Mug is loosely based on a previous character I played named Gorza, who was a wrestler and a cannibal. Mean Mug is significantly toned down. I do run a game for some friends of mine, which just means I get to make up a whole bunch of characters and I don't have to stick with just one. My favorite one is a captain named Hatfield, who inherited a ship from his father and is very, very bad at managing it.

The whole work was a great mash-up of basketball and fantasy, are you into sports or did you have to learn and go over them for the book? I'm guessing you already did.

I'm really into basketball, and through following that I've sort've grown to appreciate watching a lot of different sports. Once you get to the higher levels of any particular sport, the stakes are so high for the people playing that the drama just gets crazy. Watching the NBA finals you're basically watching people who's entire lives have been spent training for that particular moment, and they have to compete at their absolute peak or else fail in front of millions of people. I find that stuff super compelling.

Is this you first together solo show that happens to be taking place at the same time and location as another? What are you most excited about there, I'm sure it's not the food or lack of air conditioning. Dress lightly. Oh, g-d in this humidity!

It is! It's my first solo show, though Scott C has his show running concurrently. Scott's a dear friend of mine, and I'm really happy we get to open these shows together. I'm mostly excited for everyone to come out and see what I've been working on for the past however long. I don't make it out to the West Coast very often, so it'll be nice to see all my LA friends and meet some new people outside of the NYC illustration community. As far as the humidity goes, it was 95 degrees in Brooklyn earlier this week and muggy as anything. I think I can handle it.

You work on Steven Universe, how much fun do you have with some of the most creative artists out there, including yourself. I mean Cartoon Network has taken most of the artistic talent out there and put in Burbank.

Working on Steven is like a weird dream. Everyone on design team is so crazily talented on their own, and could probably do one of many jobs on the show, but seeing how everyone has honed these different talents to bring the whole show together is extremely inspiring. It's an incredible show. I can't help but think of the kids who are going to grow up to be better people for having a show with such important and positive themes.

Is Sugar sweet or is she sour working you to the bones?

Rebecca is great.

(I still question his answer)

Are you going to get diabetes from all the special desserts you have based on the new episodes that come out?

Sadly (extremely sadly), I work on the show remotely, from New York, so I'm not there for the debut parties they have. I have to watch from afar as all those sweet treats get eaten. The crew was nice enough to send me cupcakes on my birthday, though.
