Too Many Donuts: LA 1st annual Donut Summit

I ate so many donuts at the Donut Summit. I'm happy I did. The hopefully 1st of many donut summits was held last Sunday, June 13th at Griffith Park.

When I first arrived I was greeted by good parky a friendly Metro Bloggers. Metro bloggers LA's division made they event possible so hats of to them. The Metro bloggers were courteous and help put my friends and my donuts down. You were suppose to bring a dozen donuts as your entry in to be fair. I chose not to be a jerk a did the status qou. I waited around mingled for a bit, but to be honest I just wanted to start eating the donuts right away.

What happened was simply beautiful. We ate way too many donuts. Donuts from everywhere in LA. Every two-bit donut shop, Krispy Kreme, Winchels and what have you was thoroughly examined and digested. Two long tables could barely fit all the donuts that were brought. Sure enough more donuts were brought in throughout out the event. Even as I was leaving more donuts were being introduced.

This donut summit wasn't only a fun food fest, but a ceremony to find the best donuts in LA. There was a selected criteria to categorize the donuts.

The winners I care for were

BEST OVERALL DONUT OR PASTRY:
BEST DONUT FILLING:

Donut Man
915 E Route 66
Glendora, CA 91740

I donut know if it was the best to me, but the strawberry filling was superb. It's mouthwatering waiting for one when it's right in front of you.

MOST UNCONVENTIONAL DONUT: Frygirl

BEST CHOCOLATE DONUT :DK’s Donuts
1614 Santa Monica Boulevard, Santa Monica

more winners

Before the donut voting ended donut trivia and haiku were spouted. Coffee was drunk and everyone was told to use the disabled toilet as it was the only clean one.

The winners were handed donut medals and truly they were winners for now they had donut necklaces to prove so.

As I slowly walked away from the event I thought I hope it's even bigger next year.

Event even made the LA Times
