The Real L.A. Material (April Fools 2026)

 -Editorial

As such, we're presenting THE REAL L.A. MATERIAL. The new site that should have been, with the in-depth stories on LA and pop-culture instead of that garbage rag that some former L.A. Time poo-poo heads put out. Please enjoy the latest news in the sweet vulnerable underbelly of our fair city of LA.

Five Minutes Before My Pants Blew Up With Diarrhea In The L.A. Mayoral Race (April Fools 2026)

By Ulia Ick

1st Minute

On this balmy morning, only five minutes remained before, my pants would have a hole in them. If only I could get into the stall being used by Mayor Karen Bass in this unisex restroom in town hall. I say, "Ms. Mayor are you almost done in there, I know you have a lot on your plate, but I had a lot on mine." Why did I go for the hottest bird at Howlin' Ray's?

2nd Minute

Another stall, opens, but before I can get to it, Nithya Raman, Los Angeles City Councilmember, blindsides me and takes it. "Oh, c'mon," I shout. "Weren't you just waiting for the mayor?" I spout. At least from that end. My other end isn't looking so good.

3rd Minute

I think I'm seeing new colors. Bass and Raman are just going at it. And by it, I mean farting. Finally some relief, when I hear a flush, but I'm pushed aside by County Supervisor Lindsey Horvath. I fall to the ground. Almost leaking. She doesn't say, "Excuse me", she just takes another stall as I crawl, one hand holding my stomach, the other holding my butt.

4th minute

Why can't I just poop? Tech entrepreneur Adam Miller is why, he steps in on his phone, trips over me and never looks up. As he gets up, he somehow gets into a stall as someone gets out like some sort of French comedian in a 60's movies. I'd laugh, if it didn't mean I being adding artwork to the walls.

5th minute

Rick Caruso comes in. Surveys the situation. He sees me in my time of need. Rick tells me, "Come here, let me show you something." I get up and follow him just outside. He takes out a key and unlocks a door next to the restroom. It slowly opens. It's some sort of private restroom. It's magical. A beautiful looking art deco design with the contemporary needs of the average LAian met. He then tells me, "You should have voted for me for mayor." And, slams the door in my face.

Then, I crapped my pants.

Hayao Miyazaki’s debut feature revisits a character he directed for television―gentleman thief Lupin the 3rd. Grandson to Maurice Leblanc’s French literary master thief Arsène Lupin, Lupin the 3rd is
a Swinging Sixties-style, James Bond-like charmer who steals for thrills. Stuck with counterfeit bills after a Monaco casino heist, Lupin and his sidekicks hightail it to the mysterious principality of Cagliostro to find the source of the fake money. In the process, the trio becomes embroiled in palace intrigue between Count Cagliostro and Princess Clarisse. An energetic caper, Lupin the 3rd: The Castle of Cagliostro is a stylish start to a brilliant oeuvre.

The first feature-length theatrical film to bring this small-screen community to the big screen, Follow That Bird is a freewheeling road musical that follows 8-foot-tall avian Big Bird (Carroll Spinney in a heart-melting performance) from his placement with a foster family to his trek back to his real home on Sesame Street.

A Depression era-set Southern Gothic thriller, The Night of the Hunter tells an adult story through the eyes of children. Actor-turned-director Charles Laughton described it as a “fairy tale of the Big Bad Wolf’s pursuit of the Little Pigs.” Robert Mitchum stars as the wolf in preacher’s clothing pursuing the two children of a widow (Shelley Winters) who know about a stash of ill-gotten loot. A dream-like work thanks in part to the unique cinematography by Stanley Cortez, it turns feverishly on dualities — heaven and hell, good versus evil, the sacred and profane — while paying homage to the silent era with Lillian Gish also starring.—Theater Manager Lauren Brown

Netflix Hearing It's Fans Out: "We've Heard What You've Said, Steel Ball Run Jojo's Bizarre Adventure Will Not Be Released In Batches" (April Fools 2026)

By Auren Ans

After the turmoil the news caused that Steel Ball Run Jojo's Bizarre Adventure would be released in batches again after the controversy of the release of the previous Jojo's series Stone Ocean, Netflix wisely listened to its fans. Instead of not giving any response at all, Netflix immediately apologized and said it was going to have concrete schedule once David Productions finished animating the full series in the next year or two. And, they'd be keeping fans in the loop on the status of the production, so they know when the show's actually finished and would be ready to be released.

Ted Saranos, "Yeah, we get it. We've heard what you've said, Steel Ball Run Jojo's Bizarre Adventure will not be released in batches. We missed the finish line with this one, but there's still more race to be had. Sorry."

Fans loved the animation of the first episode, but were dismayed when no schedule for upcoming episodes could be found or was announced. Then further dismay came by the grim confusing reveal of a "2026" as the next episode date at a panel for the production in Japan. Luckily, those fears were forgotten when the billion dollar company acted as such in a decisive way and with an approach they gained it favor with the people it's trying to impress by asking forgiveness and righting the wrongs it so callously caused that it was already made painfully aware of.

Disney+ applauded the news with a confirmed release date for X-Men '97 Season 2 this May 10th.

Jury Duty Presents: Company Retreat Maybe Not The Best Name For Show (April Fools 2026)

By  Att Amilton

Jury Duty the original show came out 3 years ago. 3 years later Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky the creators of the show have run out of money and must make another Jury Duty. But they can't use the same name. Amazon tells them they need some connection to the first show so people no what they're in for. And, like a movie trailer using credits like "from the producers of" not being enough, another dark step was taken.

One lazy executive had the wherewithal to say, "Call it. Jury Duty Presents. So, people know that the people who made that show made this one."

"Can't we just use our names or in the trailer or go 'from the makers of Jury Duty'? Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky sheepishly asked Amazon.

"NO! What are you stupid?", Amazon said to them as it blew smoke in their faces. And, they added, "Now take your pile of money and don't bother us for another 3 years, that's how cockamamy seasons work here NOW!

Olympics Cancelled: Way To Go Jeff (April Fools 2026)

By Ablo Oldstein

Thanks, Jeff! You massive dork! Oy vey. Ughhh, the Olympics, the 130-year-old institution will not be happening in LA thanks to one man, Jeff. Jeff, didn't sign a form, so, we guess, no Olympics for LA. So, all the hard work done by countless citizens and businesses in and around LA will not be done.

All that hard work going into 2028 and after the reveal of the basic b^$ch reveal of the super bloom as our visual identity for the games. Truly, it would have been spectacular. We mean up our own a$$ nonsense that makes LA great.

Did you know our logo, past-tense had an interchangeable A made different artists and so called celebrities not yet in trouble. As of writing this their were 42 As.

 Jeff, you're such a jerk!

Move Over Shohei Ohtani Souvenir Cup, Dodger Stadium Has A Pricer Item Existence (April Fools 2026)

By Omo Hien

Don't worry Dodger fans the price of the Shohei Ohtani Souvenir Cup has gone done from $75 smackaroos to $69 as a joke on sex. And, free refills for the rest of the season.

Do worry as Dodger Stadium is implementing it's newest policy of just taking all the money out of your wallet when you're there. The next time you come to Dodger Stadium every last dollar, coin, credit card and bit of crypto will be drained from you. Vacuums, guard dogs, small people with glue on their hands will go through your pockets, fanny packs and purses to get every last ounce of currency.

Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer Bob Wolfe said, "How the f*#k do you think we were gonna pay for Shohei Ohtani's $700 million contract! You get down to Dodger Stadium and you give us all your money!, " as he frothed at the mouth. He then turned red in the face, fell forward onto his desk having a heart attack.

Next week's game will be a memorial game in his honor. You can get a Hello Kitty Head Flopper if you come early, so don't miss it.

WonderCon 2026: Regular Show Q&OOOHHHHHH!!: Down Memory Lane, Bro

Regular Show: The Lost Tapes starts airing May 11th on Cartoon Network, that's as much as was could be revealed by series creator and executive producer J.G. Quintel. Head writer Matt Price led the panel as best he could with as little feedback and preparedness from the rest of the cast and crew. I had forgotten and you have might have forgotten how much Cartoon Network animators are huge dorks. Friendly, nice, courteous people with low-scoring social skills. J.G Quintel and Executive Producer Sean Szeles might not have been high, but there was no way I could tell. They answered every question they could during the Q&A with joyful optimism like they had just graduated high school and it sort of brought me back to many of the other panels I covered of Cartoon Network and I was reminded of how other creators like Pen Ward, creator of Adventure Time and Rebecca Sugar, creator of Steven Universe are huge dorks. Friendly dorks with not the greatest people skills.

William Salyers the voice of Rigby was there and so was Sam Marin who voices Benson, Pops and Muscle Man. The didn't really do the voices to pump the crowd in any way. That might have been fun. Nothing seemed very much planned out.

Here's the silliest part, didn't hate the panel, just wish it was little like the old days when Cartoon Network shelled out some free stuff to promote the show. I think the boys just did this for fun.

So, what really happened is WonderCon fans spent an intimate hour with the people behind Regular Show as they reminisced about making it. We looked at clips from each person's favorite episode and learned a little about the behind-the -scenes from the show. Then came the Q&A. Here's some highlights.

-We all screamed  OOOOOHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!! at the start and the end as one those.

-  J.G. Quintel has no idea how Mordecai and Riby are in Fortnite, he's never even played Fortnite. He has zero control over that.

- Episodes written that were considered too messed-up to air on TV would be call "cold subs", because a sandwich shop the crew went to for lunch heard the staff there being sad when saying, "cold subs" into a mic to the people making them in the back. And, happy when saying, "hot subs." So, episodes making it to air would be called "hot subs."

-Some times they would "reheat" bring back bad episodes "cold subs" to turn them into acceptable episodes "hot subs"

-The famous Eggcellent Hat episode was much more gross before network notes. Apparently, Mordecai's own barf was going to teach him how to make it through the omelette in time. J.G.'s first fix, what about more barf? The network said no.

- Every episode had notes and J.G. liked it that way, because it made them have to rewrite there ideas to fit a show that children could watch or at least make it to air.

-Matt Price was very worried the new show was a massive prank.

-William Salyers, voice of Rigby, got to deliver a graduation speech at a real LA High School Graduation, because his character Rigby had an arc of going back to high school and giving a speech.

-Last Cartoon Network show to use Post-It Notes for story-boarding before switching to Storyboard Pro software.

Taskmaster Real Season 21 Starts April 9th & WonderCon 2026: Taskmaster LA: Bring Your Own Bestie

 By Jonathan Bilski

Season 21of Taskmaster will air worldwide starting Thursday, April 9th at 2pm PST on the Taskmaster YouTube Channel

The latest participants are: Amy Gledhill, Armando Iannucci, Joanna Page, Joel Dommett and Kumail Nanjiani.

A man dressed as a pirate was pushing a fancy chair on the sidewalk as I walked by to grab a drink outside of the Anaheim Convention Center. The center had practically shut down for the night with the kiosks shut down and less staff and cosplayers around. I wondered what anime or game this pirate with a fancy office chair was referencing. What strange show was I missing? I didn't expect to see it it an hour later on stage as the Taskmaster's throne!

Friday night at WonderCon, I didn't know what to expect at one of the last panels, but I was pumped. Taskmaster LA returned to WonderCon this year. I've read about it, but wanted to see it. An unofficial version of the game, that pays homage, but not royalty fees, to the beloved British game show. A game where cruel and strange tasks are given to 5 comedians and a taskmaster harshly awards points for how they believe they should be scored. This version's Taskmaster is Ryan Omega and his assistant is Reuben Bresler. They had there friends, many whom are just regular people, participate in their version of Taskmaster. And, much like how the Angels are somehow the Los Angeles Angels even though they are in Anaheim, this was titled Taskmaster LA.

Mixing it up was the idea of: Bring Your Own Bestie. So, bringing your best friend. Kiri Callaghan brought her wife Angelique Rockwood, but this was her second choice, which the other participants and audience did tease. One's a writer of books about magic, another an actress/stunt woman. Another team of ladies was Aki Benson and Shoshanna Ruth Green, and the dude team of Dan Wood and Efran Nava who for the most part have normal jobs like being a librarian.

Now, I will say, I get why, you have comedians go on Taskmaster proper. Though, strange to watch this version, it's just not the same flavor of the original. And, you can see why it's hard to replicate the show. Still, hats off to the team behind it replicating as much of the magic of show as the could as this was done out of their own pockets for themselves and WonderCon goers.

Shoshanna, a real comedian did stand out, not for laughs, thought she plays a good elephant in a task, but for the item task. She made a cardboard throne for both Ryan and Reuben, that added a bit of production value to the whole thing.

That may have been the reason her team won. BTW, she was not the person picked for the the game show, but the best friend of the person chosen to participate. So, her being a comedian, had no reason on her being there.

You need comedians. That's why I look forward to the next season of the real show above.

Aki and Shoshanna won that night's version of Taskmaster and that totally deserved it for cardboard craftsmanship.

Hilbert Museum Review: Jørgen Klubien’s Disney & Pixar Art Exhibition Reveals the Stories Behind the Films

 By Eric Harris

If you’ve ever wondered what Disney and Pixar animation looks like before it becomes movie magic — before the polish, before the color, before the Pixie Dust — the Hilbert Museum’s new exhibition, Jørgen Klubien at Disney and Pixar, is essential viewing. This rare behind‑the‑scenes showcase reveals the original drawings, beat boards, and story sketches that shaped some of the most iconic animated films of the 1990s and 2000s.

Running February 7 to October 4, 2026, the exhibition features more than 50 original works by Danish-born animator and story artist Jørgen Klubien (often spelled Jorgen in English). His work helped define beloved Disney and Pixar films including The Little Mermaid, The Lion KingThe Nightmare Before ChristmasPocahontasMulan, A Bug’s Life, Toy Story 2, Monsters, Inc., and Cars, for which he contributed the original story and early character concepts.

For animation fans, Disney historians, and families looking for a unique museum experience in Orange County, this exhibition is a standout.

A Rare Look at Disney and Pixar Animation Before It Hits the Screen

During a recent tour with museum founder Mark Hilbert, I experienced the kind of access that transforms casual Disney fans into full-fledged animation enthusiasts. Most people have seen finished animation cels or concept art, but few encounter the raw, exploratory stage where characters are born and story sequences take shape.

The exhibition highlights this creative process through:

  • Rough thumbnail sketches
  • Character studies and gesture drawings
  • Early design sheets
  • Group interaction studies
  • Beat boards and storyboards
  • Visible edits, whiteout, and taped revisions

These imperfections (scissors-and-glue fixes, crossed-out names, and exploratory lines) are rarely shown in studio-produced behind-the-scenes materials. They reveal how Disney and Pixar characters evolve long before they appear on screen.

One delightful detail: a Toy Story 2 Jessie character sheet with crossed-out name options, a tiny piece of Pixar trivia you won’t find on any Blu-ray bonus feature.

The Lion King Storyboards: A Must-See for Animation Fans

The highlight of the exhibition is a pair of complete storyboard sequences from The Lion King, specifically the “Be Prepared” villain song (Sequence 7). These are the actual production boards used by the creative team.

Standing before them, you can follow the visual logic of the scene: the staging, camera angles, hyena choreography, and Scar’s theatrical swagger. Take a photo, then rewatch the film at home (around 27 minutes in) to compare Klubien’s drawings with the final animation. It’s a fascinating look at how Disney’s story artists translate pencil sketches into cinematic storytelling.

How Disney Animation Fits the Hilbert Museum’s Mission

At first glance, a Disney and Pixar exhibition might seem unexpected for a museum known for its California Scene art, a movement that captured everyday California life in watercolor, oil, and gouache from the 1920s through the 1960s.

But the connection is surprisingly deep.

Many California Scene artists also worked in Hollywood’s animation studios, which helps explain why numerous works in the Hilbert Museum’s permanent collection feel connected to the visual language of classic animation. Preston Blair, Phil Dike and Lee Blair are among the artists whose paintings sit in the museum’s core holdings while their studio work shaped some of the most influential animated films of the twentieth century. Their presence in the permanent collection provides helpful context for understanding how regional art traditions and animation history often developed alongside one another.

A perfect example is Preston Blair, whose 1938 watercolor Bunker Hill Cable Car appears in the Hilbert’s permanent collection. Blair’s Fantasia (1940) work focused on Dance of the Hours, where he helped choreograph the hippo and alligator ballet that became one of the film’s standout sequences. He later created the iconic Red Hot Riding Hood (1943) for Tex Avery.

That fiery redhead archetype has long captivated animation fans. I explored this lineage in my review of the Academy Museum’s “Color in Motion” exhibition, Lions, Tigers, and Redheads, Oh My!, where Technicolor’s obsession with vivid reds made certain gingers — real and animated — impossible to ignore. The Hilbert Museum’s blend of Disney art and California Scene painting makes these artistic connections feel natural and inevitable.

Other notable works on view include:
