Creature Comforts: The Broad

I went with a friend who refereed to the still new to many museum as a lady for the new exhibit it was having. I couldn't stop staring and wanting more from the featured "Creature" exhibit, now until March 19  at The Broad. As any given Saturday the lines were long outside, the Mirror Room was sold out for the day and a giant behemoth was staring at me and I was looking in awe of him.

Well, for a limited time at least. I was looking in awe of Thomas Houseago's "Giant Figure (Cyclops)." The mind wanders of what would happen if the figure came to life. At its height it seems perfect to sit at Robert Therrien's giant table upstairs. That piece up there, something to invoke a sense of childhood in adults and lost nostalgia, now just makes a place for the Cyclops to have dinner. Hope it's not you!

Really, you can see the crowds flocking to the piece while there, just studying and having playful thoughts in their minds. It reminds me of so many past boss fights from video games and mythological stories.

Hard to explain, but still a stunning piece on display is Takashi Murakami's Nurse Ko2. For the anime fan it looks like a life-size model figure made with great detail. For the outsider, you'll see a sexy nurse with wings. To my determination, I can't figure why the piece is part of the exhibit.

There's more sights to "creatures" that can both can be seen as incredibly grim to stunning. However there's only so much space and only the choices of the curators so not everything may connect with you. When it does though, it's a magical moment to be stalked by whatever creature grabs you.

Cartoon Network's Utter Mishandling of Justice League Action

While everyone cries for Rick and Morty's 3rd Season release date, as do I, I ponder what exactly is Cartoon Network doing with the new series featuring some of DC's most iconic characters. Superman's not strong enough to fight Cartoon Network's incompetence. Lex Luthor has beaten the Justice League by simply having us forget them. Whose going to remember new episodes, with little advertising, airing on Saturdays at 7:30am. And that's the only time they're airing 11-minute episodes, not even two episodes 30-minute blocks. And they aren't repeated throughout the day or again during the week?

With CN missing the McDonald's toy release by months, which led us to believe the show was suppose to come out in August, you start seeing a very strange mishandling of the show.

It's not new, but still mystifying after a new president of the network came in 2014 with what has to be at least some people switching or leaving positions from Cartoon Network.

As I've written before, CN has a long history of confusing scheduling for brand new episodes. Even a pre-CN, Kid WB had a bizarre schedule of release. The most recent problem with DC/WB Animation content you might think of is Beware the Batman airing extremely late at night with brand new episodes, but not only are DC/ WB Animation shows are mishandled, anything goes, which is a real plight to fans.

For instance, Clarence, an Cartoon Network  original has an odd release schedule and I believed it might have been cancelled as it was missing from Cartoon Network's last upfront, a showcase event for stock holders and brand marketers showing new content for the coming year. However, now it's back and randomly my DVR grabs it.

We would like to ask CN what is the motivation to try and kill the show? If it's a hatred, which has been seen for many WB Animation properties on the network, why do they air so much Teen Titans Go! ?

The lack of episodes from reading the online social accounts of animators involved with the show and just general knowledge of animation, is that they just haven't released finished episodes. In fact, news on this show and it's release have been pushed back so far that I think they might have all 52 episodes done for the season.

Justice League Action's schedule, which I'm not even certain will remain at that time slot, further infuriates fans. For those who have DVR's that might be fine, but not airing it at a prime time when they have a full week to fill is astounding.

Justice League Action connects to some of the biggest brands in film right now, even if you didn't like the films, which I don't, they are a huge reminder for fans to get involved with the show. This a huge loss in time, in the creation of the show and revenue for WB that it's either to big to see or care about.

And I do have to say the show is quite enjoyable with veteran animators from WB animation, well-known voice actors, fun plots and settings and a huge, huge cast to choose from for super hero fun.

So I'll leave you to ask Cartoon Network in forums or by e-mail or social media. Why are you mishandling Justice League Action, Cartoon Network?

Nintendo Switch in Unexpected Places

What's that there in the distance?
Wait a second...

Is that the Nintendo Switch?

Earlier this morning, we got to try our hands on the Nintendo Switch in a very unexpected place, the mountains in Santa Clarita. Not that far from the iconic Vasquez Rocks, a group of Nintendo fans were introduced to the system in a beautiful, breathtaking place by John Cena?
Yes, John Cena from the WWE was on hand to show off the Nintendo Switch. He showed us 1-2-Switch and inside the Nintendo Switch mini-den we tried Zelda: Breath of The Wild. John was friendly enough to play a game of 1-2-Switch with our group before he was scuttled away for other interviews.

1-2-Switch does seems to be more fun than we gave it credit for, because pretending to shoot your friend in a gun fight is just something we all need.

The fun thing with the Nintendo Switch mini den, other then those fetching Piranha Plant topiaries out front, was that you could make the building transparent when the Switch was taken out of it's port inside.
*Nintendo please sell those topiaries at home depot.

*We loved the wallpaper on the TV sided wall, another thing Nintendo should release.

The experience was Nintendo telling us you can play the Switch anywhere, but for our take away, Nintendo needs to design modern arcade lounges to hang out in, like karaoke parlors. I would pay for that premium and Nintendo-themed drink cocktails.

The Switch is out March 3rd and if you want to try it for yourself don't forget about the free open public Switch event on

Don't Buy Dead Rising 4 So Fast On Steam

My experience of Dead Rising 4 on PC has not been great. With multiple problems in just trying to pre-order to game to multiple errors when playing it hasn't been an ideal experience. So after dealing with all the problems Capcom decides to put the game on Steam? I'm not sure if it's fixed enough for PC to be going on Steam March 14.

What I'm saying, is that even though the game launches this March on Steam, give it time for it to be patched, go down in cost and DLC go down in price, because right now the game isn't worth getting at full price..

Although modern technology appears in only about half of the works, the multiple readings of this phrase apply to every piece in the exhibition. One interpretation gleaned from the new work is that social networks, both real and online, rather than bringing us closer, are in fact eroding our connections with one another, resulting in isolation, loneliness, and the inability to exist in the present.

CALEXIT Sci-Fi Californai Leaving The Country Comic

Just because we love comics over here at TTDILA and that many feature LA, let us never forget the run of Punisher in LA via Natahan Edmonson, this one hits home again with the idea of California succeeding from the Union. Which is completely ludicrous. Coming this May, CALEXIT has California leaving the good ol' U.S.A. following a band of rebels from a tyrannical new President. Jeez, the subtly.

You can read the full synopsis here

In CALEXIT, the citizens of California will struggle to seize power back from an autocratic government. The ongoing series tells the story of Jamil, a 25-year old courier (aka smuggler), and Zora, a 27-year old leader in the Pacific Coast Sister Cities Resistance, who escape together from a prison camp in Occupied Los Angeles, where martial law has been in place for the past year  ever since America’s demagogue President signed an executive order to deport all immigrants, and California responded by proclaiming itself a Sanctuary State. Each issue of CALEXIT will also include non-fiction material about local sustainability and grassroots campaigning for 2018 elections.
The comics due out in May and we don't know how good a read it will be, but it has some decent cover art.

This isn't the first time California has left the United States, it's a common topic of sci-fi. The earliest we can remember or one of the most fun takes on California leaving comes from Wired. It was how fast California could be taken back in with military force with the entire rest of the nation against us. We lasted a few minutes.

Things Not To Do: 5th Annual LA Art Book Fair

If you ever wanted to live in that moment where someone wants to sell you a chair made out of cardboard for $600 then come, come in droves to the never-ending sensation of the eyes of everything that is wrong with art from the way it's treated to the people selling it out of touch with reality.

From art books that have photographs of barns and random naked people on every page to what was blocked out from our minds, we highly recommend forgetting going.

It was such a nauseating experience of some of the worst art and those trying to sell it that it's a ludicrous mess that we despise.

For anyone who enjoys visiting the art galleries around LA to the modern musuems just visit them instead.
