Cinefamily presents our favorite annual Halloween tradition: the spine-tingling horror of The Tingler, William Castle’s weirdo masterpiece of gimmickry about a lobster-shaped monster that feeds on terror within the human body! Aside from being the first film to use LSD as a plot device, the original theatrical run was presented in “Percepto,” whereby theater patrons were administered buzzer shocks in their seats, to simulate the monster’s attack. The result, of course, was giddy insanity, as star Vincent Price’s voice urges patrons to “scream for your lives!” As if that wasn’t enough, The Tingler features a major subplot based on our very own Silent Movie Theatre and its original owners, the Hamptons. Feel a tingle up your spine as you watch these scenes set in the very location where you are sitting—and maybe a tingle on your tuchas when we shock you Castle-style with real wired seats!

The Bride of Frankenstein

In James Whale’s follow-up to his 1931 Frankenstein, Mary Shelley reveals that the main characters of her novel have survived. Dr. Frankenstein (Colin Clive) is urged by the mad Dr. Pretorius (Ernest Thesiger) to build Frankenstein’s monster a female companion. The monster (Boris Karloff), meanwhile, discovers joy, tragedy, and, most frequently, fear-driven hatred in his interactions with humans. The monster only wants companionship, but he remains misunderstood and loathed because of his appearance.

LA Weekly Has Some Sort Of Issue With Voice Actors

In what seems to be a very biased piece of journalism LA Weekly's Dennis Romero wrote the headline, "Video Game Voice Actors Make $800 a Day, but They Want More."

The headline alone seems against voice actors. It's a rather funny piece where Dennis seems to hate voice actors, but gives no reason of personal dispute. Which is odd because he really seems to hate them for no good reason and I want to know now after reading this silly piece.

Oddly, it seems a piece more for Liz Ohanesian who constantly covers the more geeky side of things for LA Weekly.

Basically, what's happening now is the voice actors for video games want to be paid residuals and the the game companies say that it's hard to do unlike TV's and movies because of how games sales work.

Now Dennis does actually have facts in his article that seem to very much point out that voice actors should be paid residuals, but adds strange interjections like:

"So, of course, voice actors are on strike against video game companies, largely based here, over their measly pay — about $825 for a four-hour session of work. You could barely eat — first at Whole Foods, then at Mozza and finally at Providence — for that kind of cash."

and

"I have friends who have had to have surgery because of the vocal stress they incurred in the session, and they've been out of work for months." (Yelling out "Oranges for sale" at the side of a freeway all day is not half as unhealthful.)"

What Dennis could have done a better job at was explaining that even though voice actors might get paid a large amount. It might be months before getting another job if not longer. And as video games from major publishers are on par with studios, spending millions over dollars and on making video games they should have to treat those who work on their games with respect to fiances.

If you're a freelance voice actor I'm not sure if you have any sort of medical insurance in place or anything resembling something to save for your retirement, so like many other industries there's nothing wrong with having residuals for those whose voice you hear in the game.

What really annoyed me was that this biased report didn't come from a small blog, but LA Weekly of all places.

Oh, man. He even managed to piss off Vegeta! Yes, the voice of Dragonball's Vegeta, Christopher Sabat, got into a Twitter Fight with him, priceless.

Resident Evil Experience Review: Let's Join the Umbrella Corporation or Y' Know Die

We managed to get in one of the extra nights of the now again sold out Resident Evil Experience, which hopefully takes on more nights past Nov 6. Thanks to the our friends over at World 8 for hooking us up.

Resident Evil Escape Experience
Fri, Oct 21, 2016, 6:30 PM –
Sun, Nov 6, 2016, 11:00 PM
iam8bit
2147 Sunset Boulevard
Los Angeles, CA 90026
$35

Umbrella needs new members-hmm, I wonder why- and you need to take the test. From the good folks over at iam8bit and Capcom comes a nostalgia trip for Resident Evil fans in what is a surprisingly fun and puzzingly escape room, the Resident Evil Experience. You and up to five others in a 45-minute gauntlet of mystery solving must escape from zombies in many homage based locations from the Resident Evil series. This endeavor is filled with pulse-pounding danger as you are reminded that zombies are after you in a limited test to see if your up to snuff to be part of Umbrella.

Before going in for the experience you'll be able to hang in iam8bit's lounge. You can demo Resident Evil 7 in PSVR and even play the original game on a PS1.

At the same time check out the special art work made for the experience from many iam8bit's favored artists. As already noted our favorite piece was Mitch Ansara's piece that he was too lazy or uncreative to name that was so liked by iam8bit it's also the special edition shirt they're selling for the experience. It pay homage to Alfred Hitchcock's Vertigo poster and should adorn any Resident Evil fan's home. When we went, 10/26, the art was still in a pre-order state, so don't expect you can pick it up unless told so there.

Before getting in you also have to relinquish your phone and sign a waiver. Now, you're given a little number tag to get your phone back, but I would have loved if they gave you an ink ribbon and put your stuff near a typewriter for nostalgia save purposes from the game.

White lab coat wearing Umbrella Corporation employees ushered us in and explained the rules. And like turning on a PlayStation to play the game we stepped into a fully realized escaped room based on Resident Evil.

It was dark and it was scary. It was like being thrust straight into a game.

What would follow would be a series of clues and puzzles to solve and unlock a web set up from the good folks at Umbrella. The corporations presence is felt, but also familiar and similar puzzles from the game. You'll need search through different locations. Don't think you'll only be visiting one venue in the night.

While trying to figure out some very intricate puzzles you will hear something coming after you, the undead. All the while you'll have to work in a team to get the right numbers, collect keys and figure out all the clues.

These puzzles can greatly differ and have you scrounging the rooms, looking through every nook and cranny all while time moves forward and admiring the set-up.

You may even have a chance for a little cosplay if you want to get more into the moment with what's laying around the rooms.

Now this isn't easy, my team and I only had a minute thirty-four left on the clock before our time was up. Time felt like it passed to fast as we were constantly trying to crack codes.

Sadly, the experience isn't giving real statistics on people who make it out alive or their times. Though a white coat did tell me overall people are making it and passing the conclusion. Some however, are just making it to the end and well, not everyone is Umbrella Corporation material.

The conclusion is a wonderful treat to go along with all the tricks you've endured so far, but be weary it isn't easy and required some final team effort to make it out alive. Let's just say, there's a VCR you'll need to use at the end.

We loved the Resident Evil Experience as fans of the game series and of haunts and escape rooms. It gets high marks in every category. A perfect haunt for those into the video games and wanting to do something for Halloween. Or heck, even maybe after, as rumor is Capcom may take it on the road.

If more tickets become available we highly recommend going and dress like the characters from the game if you want too.

We at TTDILA learned of the show when it was taking place in Japan in live shows. Now, thanks to the Japan Foundation we'll have a chance to see the show for ourselves. From what we've seen the show will be an amazing piece to stare at on the big screen.

Adding to the celebration will be a cosplay contest:

Please come wearing your favorite One Piece cosplay! Outside the theatre there will be a COSPLAY CORNER with Luffy, Zoro, Trafalgar Law, Chopper, Ace and marine cosplay pieces that you can try on.
