SILENT HOUSE / OPEN WATER

I care little for Open Water, but the American remake of Silent House sounds like a winner. I really like the original and the concept of having one continuous shot gets you ass to the theater to see how it looks . The ending from the original gets a little out of order, but the horror elements the original director worked in were top notch thriller material. I haven't seen this remake and I wonder how odd it would be see after seeing it updated for American audiences. I think the original was Shown at Sundance and a bidding war ensued. You can see it before it hits DVD and major theaters and ruin it for your friends

Where Have All The Video Stores Gone?

Walking through an empty Blockbuster is just surreal. It's like walking through a dream. You never realize how much space they take up. I wonder if any media store will exist in LA's future. I always like science fictional ideas about owning crystals with information, but I believe that may be too much of a dream. Is there any video store near you anymore? Ponder how much longer Blu-ray will be around before they become all digital downloads.

you have to register to see either for free

Twitch film(best film site out there) hasn't shut up about this film since they saw a preview for it and that's a good thing. Just watching the trailer you can feel you blood lust rising with off the wall action and heavy use of fire arms to blow people away.

Damsels In Distress (special advance screening, Whit Stillman in person!) Sunday, March 18th, 2012 @ 8PM The Cinefamily 611 N Fairfax Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90036

I have no idea about this movie. Seems more like a chic flic, or on par with Young Adult.

The Washing Pool of Mount Sinai

On a sad Sunday, I recently had to visit some departed relatives at a cemetery. What stood out to me was The Washing Pool you can use as you leave. Think of it as a way to cleanse yourself of the place. A constant small waterfall of water pours down you can wash your hands with. The strangest bit has to be that someone had to design it with a hand dryer in mind, you can see it in the last picture. I was told at some point that had towels near it, but I have no idea where they would have been placed.

I still haven't traveled to the Forever Cemetery in many years, I still find it strange it allows movies to be played over the graves. At Mount Sinai there have been some break-ins of cars while people were off mourning, which makes those criminals even worse than your average dirt bags. I think the penalty should be to bury them one night among the dead.

The second odd piece of note might be that Forest Lawn is adjacent, which lets anyone get buried in it, I believe you have to be Jewish to be buried at Mount Sinai. A simple low wall that you can step over separates the two cemeteries at some points, it's just odd that religion condones where one may be buried.

BTW you can get a free Tzedakah box from Mt Sinai here. What is it, well it's a box to collect coins for charity, fill it up and then just donate the coins to the charity of your choice. I think they tell you of some on the back, but you really can just collect for any charity and then dump into their basket and go, "There I care about the community and helping others, better than you", to the person who only puts in one quarter. Wait for someone else to comes by so they look like they didn't event care. I wouldn't recommend homeless people, but the organizations that help them.

Anime Hype: Made Up Movies in Anime

Sket Dance has already shown it's writer's sense of humor with Transforminator 5 a combination of Terminator and Transformers. There next mash-up that has nothing to really to do with the story is Indiee and Jaws. Yes, Indian Jones and Jaws. I' m trying to spot more of these in animes I've seen there a re quite a lot.
Here's one from an episode of My Bride is a Mermaid Lethal Honor 3 which seems to be a mash up of Die Hard and those Mel Gibson movies.

Back to Sket Dance, is that Nabeshin! Oh, if he's working on the show it makes sense why it's so funny.
 Just some funny pics
You finally did it cosplay Brock
Lastly, I find it funny how the Fry's with the Alice in Wonderland theme marks it's sections.

Justice League: Doom Review

Well, it's quality animation, just not super animation. As predicted the voice casting was great for a sub par story about taking down the Justice League using stolen contingency plans of Batman.  The plot is adapted from some different comic arcs. One from a  JLA story from the 90's with Ras Al Ghoul as the main bad guy instead of the movies Vandal Savage. The other inspiration is from two seperate Superman/Batman comic arcs. There's also one scene with Batman stolen from Kill Bill 2. The movies a fun rental, but won't ever make any top list, because of a lackluster plot and average fights.

It has it's moments like a great we are the universe seen towards the end, but everything could have just been better. Why not make a Legion of Doom with Lex Luthor and Joker? Why not have more than one major fight? Why are all the colors so subdued? Why not have a unpredictable plot like say Arkham City?

Character design of Mirro Master? What the Hell?
No scene will make you say "Whhhaaatttt?!!", out loud. It's really just made me miss Justice League Unlimited. Grab it for $15
Justice League: Doom (Blu-ray/DVD Combo + UltraViolet Digital Copy)

Adorable Pic

What a cute picture of a mommy and ba.... ah what the Hell is that thing in the corner! It's like a fucking ghost yeti.

Game Hype: Mega Man Art

Just some Mega Man art that grabbed I found online.

The Secret World of Arrietty Review

A tiny tale to hold your attention for an hour or so. As always Ghibli animation it top notch, but it isn't enough to make the movie great. I'm not saying the movie is bad, it just doesn't have that high stakes or proper ending like other Ghibli films like Howl's Moving Castle and Ponyo suffer from. There is no real climax and the way Ponyo ended I should have expected that.

What you get is a brief look at a beautiful world from a tiny person's perspective. With tiny inventive tools made out of things we use all the time reworked for little people and stunning animation that you wish you could see more of with great perspectives based on one's relation to size. Arrietty is a brave young girl, that you get know, but her story isn't that memorable. It seems like a prelude to a bigger adventure that will never come.

I recommend it as a rental or a purchase on blu-ray, just wait for a fun little story about little theives that might be living in your house... and are watching you while you sleep.

Game Hype: How Katamari Sees The World

With the release of Katamari Touch on the way,  I got nostalgic and put in Katamari Forever and forgot how funny the item description were. I wonder if there' ever updated and who has to go through every item in the game and write something about.

Oh, this one made me laugh.

Your not doing well when Katamari writes something like that.

Movie Hype: Beyond The Alien President's Daughter

Beyond The Black Rainbow

I was so happy to hear Magnet/ Magnolia Films got Beyond The Black Rainbow. I can still remember the trippy look and 80's feel about a young women with psychic powers trying to escape an evil institute at AFI Fest. I was amazed when people walked out, they actually left when the movie switched it's tone considerably. I found the director to be funny with maybe saying one word before leaving, Panos Cosmatos is his name and this is his first major film. Michael Rogers as Dr. Barry Nyle played the perfect villain and I'd say he was more the star of the movie than the protagonist. I'll update you when screenings and home video offerings are upon us, most likely in Spring.

Alien Repair Guy

Alien Repair Guy has some amazing special effects and come from Norway. This short has yet to be released anywhere even though on IMDB says it's completed, maybe it will be a stepping stone for a large project, I hope it does, because it immediately takes you in on wonder what's going to happen.

MS ONE Security Maximum/Lockout

So totally cliche, but I'd definitely go see it with friends or watch on tv. The entire film scream 90's action hero. How many time will we use the president daughter in media. It instantly remind me of a short by Rob Schrab's Robot Bastard, hmm other saving President's daughter media, Resident Evil 4, Dynamite Cop, it just happens a lot.

Toy Hype: Lenil Yu, Groot, and Changing Cyber Robot Racer

Looks like comic book artist Lenil Yu is doing some side work for toys in the Three Man Army Corps line. His characters seem very reminiscent of Tony Stark and Wolverine

I don't think I've seen a t-shirt toy robot combo before, gotta love the name Changing Cyber Robot Racer.

Did you know you get and adorable little Grott planter with your Marvel Universe Guardians of the Galaxy Action Figure Set?

Kirby's Epic Yarn Pulled My Strings

Kirby's Epic Yarn really entangled me with it's arts and crafts platformer gimmick. I enjoyed the game so much I cosplayed last year at AX as cop version's of Kirby and Prince Fluff. They just brighten up my desk. Just some string and some eyeballs and maybe a crown and you have an awesome blue and pink duo on your desk.
I hope Prince Fluff makes it into the next Super Smash Bros.

Game|Life Tells People About Vita Hill Social Club 5 Days Before It Closes

Game|Life finally got around to telling people it existed in the two months it's been operational,

HEY ,WAIT A SECOND THEY DIDN'T HAVE MEMBERSHIP CARDS WHEN I WENT! That's a fun collectible. Possibly, only the San Fran one gets them. Anyway, Game|Life or the new Slowtaku is right to remind you you only have a few more days to suck down free awful coconut water and try the PS Vita. I've read of a possible 3DS event on the Third Street Promenade on March 1st , but nothing is confirmed yet, possibly taking the place of Vita Hill Social Club.
