Nintendo Was In A Mii Patent Case The Whole Time

In a strange press release by Nintendo PR it was announced there was ongoing litigation over Mii characters and who created the idea. "RecogniCorp, LLC claimed that Nintendo’s Mii characters employed the same techniques described in the patent for making police sketches of suspects."

Well, Nintendo won the case in a federal appeals court.

It's kind of strange it was brought up, maybe internally it just was really annoying to Nintendo.
