AFI Fest 2013 Full Schedule Up

The full schedule of films playing at AFI Fest 2013 taking place Nov 7-14 is up. The week long fest of free movies and special screenings of films that might take years to get to the home market or the big screen pulls all LAins in to catch a film.

Chinese 6 11/10/2013, 11:59 p.m

Chinese 2 11/11/2013, 1:30 p.m

The whole Midnight selection is worth viewing. I'm surprised to see R100 playing. Directed and written by the Japanese comedy genius Hitoshi Matsumoto of Big Man Japan fame actually has more showings in America than just Fantastic Fest. Expect big laughs from the dark humor as a single father joins an extremely painful looking bondage club.

Check out what fans got for attending early screenings in Japan.

 THE GREEN INFERNO

Chinese 1 11/08/2013, 11:59 p.m.

Chinese 1 11/12/2013, 9:45 p.m.

Eli Roth brings us a cannibalism film, we haven't seen this level since the 70's. College students visit the jungle and wouldn't you know it, it was a bad idea.

For animation we have

THE WIND RISES (KAZE TACHINU)

Egyptian 11/08/2013, 6:30 p.m.

Chinese 1 11/09/2013, 12:45 p.m.

The last work of Hayao Miyazaki, he's nod dead, he just retired. Oddly enough, the main male lead is voice by the creator of Evangelion Hideaki Anno. Flying and aerial maneuvers ends Miyazaki's flight into anime legend with a story about the man who created WW2 fighter planes. Supposedly, a week run of the film will take place here in LA for it to qualify for an Academy Award.

THE FAKE (SAIBI)

Chinese 2 11/08/2013, 7:00 p.m.

Chinese 3 11/09/2013, 1:00 p.m.

Synopsis:

In this controversial animated drama from South Korea, a rural village in danger of a flood turns to a church that promises salvation.

THE CONGRESS

 Chinese 3 11/10/2013, 7:30 p.m.

 Chinese 1 11/13/2013, 3:45 p.m.

In the future an aging actress decides to sell her likeness letting it appear in the future's convoluted vacuum cleaner commercials. More like the future internet where it appears anything goes. This should be a stunning surrealist piece of animation mixed with live-action.

BORGMAN

Chinese 4 11/11/2013, 9:30 p.m.

Chinese 2 11/12/2013, 9:30 p.m.

Drafthose Films will be distributing this down the road and the always seem to have a good eye.

Synopsis:

A man's unexpected arrival begins a series of unsettling events that unravel the facade of a wealthy couple, their three children and their nanny.

MOEBIUS

Chinese 6 11/10/2013, 8:45 p.m.

Chinese 4 11/12/2013, 10:15 p.m.

You had me at gang rape.

Synopsis:

Master provocateur Kim Ki-duk’s latest elevates horrifying acts of gang rape, mutilation and other taboo-busting atrocities into the level of high art.

BLUE RUIN

Chinese 1 11/08/2013, 9:30 p.m.

Chinese 5 11/12/2013, 5:15 p.m.

Synopsis:

This American revenge story follows a mysterious outsider whose quiet life is turned upside down when he returns to his childhood home to carry out an act of vengeance.

JODOROWSKY'S DUNE

Chinese 1 11/12/2013, 6:30 p.m.

Chinese 1 11/13/2013, 1:00 p.m.

So worthy of being a documentary, Jodorowsky's Dune shows the insane failed attempt of director Alejandro Jodorowsky's to make Dune. He was going to pay Salvor Dali millions for practically doing nothing. It's not like David Lynch's version was anywhere near good, but what could've been boggles the mind.

HER

Egyptian 11/13/2013, 7:30 p.m.

Chinese 1 11/14/2013, 1:00 p.m.

Synopsis:

This romantic comedy from Spike Jonze presents a lonely writer who develops an unlikely relationship with his newly purchased operating system.

CARLOTA

Chinese 5 11/09/2013, 9:45 p.m.

Chinese 4 11/10/2013, 4:30 p.m.

A new short from one of my favorite new directors Nacho Vigalondo. A sci-fi romantic situation perhaps?
