Weekly What To Do: Final Fantasy Prom > Cyclists < Marvel Comic Burlesque

CicLAvia Wilshire
June 23, 2013
9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

The awfully named CicLAvia , which everyone pronounces wrong returns bringing bicyclists out in huge numbers. I'd be fine if the event just shut down the street and people walked, but cyclists treat this city like garbage and their lack of safety endangers themselves and others.

THE FIFTH SEASON
Discussion with director Jessica Woodworth and Belgian beer reception to follow.

Aero Theatre
1328 Montana Avenue,
Santa Monica, CA 90403 Map
Wed, June 19
7:30pm

"In an isolated Belgian village, spring mysteriously fails to follow winter, and teenagers Alice (Aurélia Poirier) and Thomas (Django Schrevens) watch as their farming community slowly succumbs to in-fighting and despair. Shot in extended takes, this haunting film is a follow-up to co-directors Peter Brosens and Jessica Woodworth’s earlier examinations of man’s relationship to nature, KHADAK and ALTIPLANO. In French and Flemish with English subtitles."

Odd extra showing with it being featured in the LA Film Festival.

VEGETARIAN CANNIBAL
Discussion between films with director Igor Mirković

"The official Croatian submission for the 2012 Academy Awards, this dark drama stars Rene Bitorajac as Danko Babić, a corrupt gynecologist at a high-end fertility clinic. Like some of the movies’ most notorious sociopaths, Babić masks his sinister side with innocent charm, doing whatever gets him more sex, power and money without regard for the suffering of others. An unflinching and unforgettable portrayal of a man utterly beyond redemption. In Croatian with English subtitles."

I've heard so much about this one, don't miss you chance seeing it.
