Who is Hatsune Miku?

Hatsune Miku is a virtual idol meaning she isn't a real person, but a video game model. She was created for software also titled "Hatsune Miku" which is a music synthesizer program that uses Volcaloid. Volcaloid is the basic music synthesizer program and Hatsune Miku is a program that has Hatsune Miku's voice. Hatsune Miku's voice is sampled from Saki Fujita a voice actress from Japan. Hatsune Miku comes from the Japanese words meaning first (hatsu) sound (ne) and future (Miku). MikuMikuDance another application creates virtual concerts and songs with game characters like Hastune Miku to pull off virtual concerts.

The concert itself that will be at Anime Expo is shockingly different as the virtual idol will appear on stage using fascinating new technology that will make it appear as though she is on stage. It will look like this or better

I might try asking to look at the tech before the show to explain how it works better.

For those who keep asking on forums and facebook, you have to buy both a ticket to the concert $20 and have a Anime Expo badge for Saturday July 2nd or a active badge for the Hatsune Miku Concert. This means registering for Anime Expo and picking the correct day/s, then selecting what concerts to go to while logged in and purchasing the ticket.

Click on "Add to your 2011 Registration" on the link below. You can purchase Main Events tickets (yes, that includes the concerts) there

The AX Badges price ranges
4-Day Pricing - Best Value
Apr 1 - Jun 14 - $70
Jun 15 - Jul 4 - $75

2-Day Pricing
Apr 1 - Jun 14 - $60
Jun 15 - Jul 4 - $65

1-Day Pricing
May 1 - Jul 4 - $50

Not a only Friday, Sunday or Monday badge, it has to be a active badge for the day the concert is happening.

It's happening at the Nokia Theatre, walking distance from the convention center.

There is no assigned seating for the concert, it's first come first served, so I'd get there early if you're in a big group and want to sit next to each other. It's a nice theater and still brand new, only a few years old.

Danny Choo, who is also a guest of honor at Anime Expo, posted on his website that he will MC for the concert and for the other related events. Choo also adds that Vocaloids Rin, Len and Luka will also be "performing."

If you bought them online, please bring your valid Anime Expo® attendee badge (after picking it up from Registration) and your registration confirmation e-mail along with a photo ID to the Main Events Ticketing Booth in West Hall Alcove to pick up your pre-purchased tickets.

I have my tickets, what do I do now?

Simply go to the designated venue with your ticket and Anime Expo® attendee badge before the start of the event. Seating usually starts around 30-60 minutes before the start of the event. Please do not lose your ticket as we do not have replacements and cannot refund your purchase!

The Kalifina concert and Hitsune Miku concert will not be at the same time,  times have yet to be announced for both.

There is much fan love for this character and you might have seen her around the net, a popular Japanese site Nico Nico Douga liked the character right away and a super-deformed version of her appeared in a music video seen around the net. The video is Hastune Miku holding a leek
twirling it around and singing Ievan Polka , here is a new version of it
